  • Todays seriously impressive Halfrauds purchase

As mentioned last night, an LED Lenser L5 was/is for sale at Halfords for £10.00 reduced from £28.99 (stock levels permitting).

Edit: appears Lenser offers at Halfords now finished

Great for not only for myself for swirl detection when detailing but a great little torch that does actually fit into the glovebox to be used in emergencies.

2 Duracell batteries and a lanyard supplied with torch as standard and for such a small thing it is bright, VERY bright.

    Good buy
    BUT....Why call them 'Halrauds'?
You've just posted that you've a good deal from them and call them 'Halfrauds'
    Confusing don't you think?

It was Halfrauds Chris not Halrauds.

Yes it is a contradiction in terms but previous bad experiences with Halfords have earned them the unmoveable name of Halfrauds.

A very good torch bargain goes some way to them redeeming themselves but not far enough (just yet).

Cheaper but not anywhere close to the quality you get with led lenser

            Hi Andy,

Looks great - my local store called me to say they didn't have any - I suspected this would be the case as it was the only store showing one to reserve and collect - alas, but never mind.

Robbo - 'Halfrauds' - because generally their prices are way over the top for bits! Andy secured a great one off deal here, they won't be this price again (unless we're very lucky!)....

            Regards,
            Clive.

I ask because I've always found them very good in all departments
I've always thought too, that they need to broaden their range...like Snow Foam lances etc... but I would never, from my experience, call them a rip off company

Always happy to shop at Halfords, there is always one close by and they will always have what I need if I don't have the time to shop online.

                Just saying.

Do not intend to start a Halfords fan club, but the guys there are quite helpful- then you can go off to the web and get the item cheaper

                  Done that several times

Never the cheapest in my experience but sometimes when you need a part desperately you can't do without them !

Had many frustrations with these guys.

                      1) Started off a few Christmas' ago when paid for and arranged for 3 kids bikes to be held until Christmas Eve when they would be collected fully assembled and safety checked. Spoke with manager and arranged for them to be held as near to their closing time as possible when I would borrow a van to collect them and keep in van until they had gone to bed so they could put in the living room from Santa.

Got to Halfords about 15 minutes before they shut with the guarantee from the manager that they would be ready. Got there and you guessed it, not only not ready but none of the bikes were even at the store and neither was the manager. Stuff hit the fan the next day after Christmas when they opened I can assure you.

                      2) Secondly was asked by my employer to select a sat nav system for the Risk managers to use to assist their day to day activities. They had to include the ability to enter up to 50 multiple destinations then select the most efficient route. Decided on a Garmin which was on offer at Halfords at a good price and I went in to make enquiries to purchase 16 of them in one go. Sales assistant called the manager who when I enquired if he had or could get hold of 16 units that day was not in the slightest bit interested. Very unhelpful and could not tell me how many they had. He actually said "do you expect me to have to go into the warehouse to count them". Left and ordered 16 from Amazon.

                      3) Reserved an LED Lenser L5 last night for 1000 pennies to collect today and was supposed to receive a confirmation email which never arrived. Went to store today and asked girl on the till where I was to go to collect reserved items and that I did not receive the confirmation email. She asked for my name and what the product was. When she was told, she replied that she had seen it that morning and would go and retrieve it for me. On her way to collect it she was redirected by another customer to help them pick an engine oil (whilst I was waiting). Almost ten minutes later I saw her leave the other customer, disappear into the parts dept. and then return saying she couldn't find it and could I go to the parts dept. myself to sort it out.

Off I trot and was asked for proof of reservation from email. Told him didn't receive one but I could see what I had reserved on the side behind him. He said he couldn't find my reservation until another ten minutes later then said he had found the reservation, it had been picked that morning but now could not find the product.
"Is that not it behind you"
"No that's another customers reserved this morning"
                      "Where's mine then?"
                      "Don't know"
"Are there anymore on the shelf or in the warehouse"
                      "No"
"I have an idea; as I am here and I reserved it last night, can I not take that one behind you?"
"Oh if you must if it will stop you moaning"

If it had not have been such a bargain they wouldn't have gotten my hard earned.

In Halfords I am made to feel like it is all too much of an effort. May just be the bone idle assistants/managers up here in the North West.

One good thing though is this:

If you bought a bottle of Demon Rapid Dirt Shifter for example from Morrisons for £4 make sure you keep the receipt. Then take receipt to nearest Halfords, ask them to price match Morrisons and you can then take advantage of their current 3for2 offer.

So from Halfords (RRP £7.99) you would get 3 bottles for £8 instead of £15.98. Also would work with WonderWheels HotWheels using the same process.

Sadly I and my friends all have similar tales of Halfords, mostly to do with staff who can't be arsed to show any customer service or assistance in store. As I said I mostly use them as a last option now when I need something that day in an emergency.

I am very surprised they have lasted as long as they have in this economic climate. Staff (including management) are an absolute joke.

Halfords are rip off merchants. I needed two H1 and two H7 bulbs for a car I was working on. I asked the sales rep for a price.... he wanted over 40 quid. I got the same type bulbs for 12 quid from a local motor factors. The only time I go into halfords is if someone has given me a voucher or worse still nowhere else is open to get something i need asap.

I bought a Garmin GPS Cycle computer the other day from Halfords
Advertised at £20 off for one day only @ £79.99 from £99.99
                              I had a £25 gift card
£54.99..Reserved in store and collected with no problem the same day
As Online detailing shoppers we can get a wider range of products than Halfords offer, but Mr. and Mrs. Average never shop for these products online, so use Halfords
OK they are not always that cheap, but with offers , they are
I will never call them Halfrauds..IME, why should I?
