  • Speed trap detectors

Hi guys, I know its been discussed on here before, but cant see an answer to my question.

Can anyone recommend a good speed trap detector? Im currently using my Garmin SatNav but its not exactly ideal as the battery is rubbish! I would also like something small & unobtrusive that I can just stick on my dash.

    Any recommendations?

You could try the Speed Limiter

Most Sat Nav's have the info about fixed sites and to be honest this is probably your best bet.

Good idea on the speed limiter but not exactly what I was thinking?

Garmin do an update for all speed cameras but is this really the best option? The battery only lasts about 2hrs so I can see it always being on charge in the car!

        Am I missing something?

Why not run with the Garmin plugged in to the car?

That way, the battery won't run out.

I'd rather not have a cable constantly trailing from the power supply, round my gear stick & up my dash (I'm a neat freak!).

I was hoping to get something small I could mount to my dash & that would last 5-10 hours between charges.

You could always splice the power from the cigarette lighter port and run another cable into the dash somewhere to mitigate the need to have cables all over the place?

              +1.

My TomTom is always plugged in when I'm using it, I've even run the cable down under the mat and up through the gap by the A-pillar so I don't have to mess about when starting the journey.

My Garmin power lead stays in the car all the time, tucked under the edge of the trim along the driver's side of the centre console and threaded up below the steering wheel. The top end is secured with a bulldog clip to the edge of the trim below the wheel where it can be pulled out and up to the centre vent when needed (my Garmin sits on a holder that clips on the centre vent). The other (power socket) end of the cable stows out of sight under the driver's seat when not plugged in.

Works for me - virtually invisible when not in use and, even when being used, only a short discreet run of cable from beneath the steering wheel diagonally (flat against the dash, past the edge of the door lock button) up to the sat nav.

Might put a pic up if I can work out how to do it!

Cheers guys for your thoughts. I've decided to update my Garmin with the speed camera pack & buy a bean bag dash mount. Should hopefully keep me on the right side of the law in my new wheels!
