Dstyle plus 1.6 petrol 120 vti

Hi there

Just purchased a d style plus 1.6 vti 120 petrol after part ex my d style 1.6 hdi diesel. A little disappointed with the lack of acceleration compared to my previous hdi engine. I assumed that both engines were the same re accelerating. Any one else noticed the same as me?

I guess i should have test drove the petrol engine 1st?

Ha ha guess you should have:eek: What you are noticing is the torque that your old diesel had is no longer there You just need to get use to the petrol engine. The 120 is a good reliable engine.

It will feel flat if you drive it like a diesel, as there's comparatively much less power at low revs. It's an engine that loves to rev - things start to happen at around 3,500 rev/min!

Did you change from the 110 diesel or the 90?

I part ex'd mine from the 90HDi to the 120 petrol and while it doesn't have the initial boost kick in you can tell it is a lot faster after a bit.

the 120 vti engine comes to life at about 3500 rpm. put your foot down more and you will notice the difference

Changed from the 90 to the 120 petrol.

Oh, I'd have thought the eHDI 90 to the 120 would've been very close, a couple of my mates love the torque and acceleration in my eHDI 115. Both said they didn't think diesels could be that fun lol

As the others have said give the 120 some stick and I think you'll be happier

There is quite a difference in the two engines which you have found out, but don't panic!

Where the diesel has all the torque mid range the VTi is designed for you to rev the nuts of it! Try to avoid changing when your ears tell you too as you are too used to the diesel and you will end 'short-shifting' way too early, keep an eye on the revs and bring then up higher then before. The petrol engine needs to be rev'ed to the higher part of the range in order to get the best out of it.

After a few days you will settle in

Thanks guys for the advice re the extra revs needed. Have been out today and done as you said and it works. Just a matter of re programming my brain to drive this petrol engine.

I've recently updated the exhaust on my Dstyle VTI 120, to a factory Dsport twinpipe exhaust. Made a (very) slight difference to the performance but it doesn't feel as flat in places. Cheap mod that will also improve the aesthetics dramatically, which was the only reason I modified mine.
