Hi guys, I'm after some help if possible. I do quite a lot of miles for work and wherever I drive I'm gaurenterd to attract the puddin that can't drive, the number of near misses I have is ridiculous! I know it's not my driving as I'm an ex cop (pursuit trained) so I'm gonna purchase a dash cam to hopefully prove my innocence when/if the inevitable happens! The one I'm gonna order has a few functions, one of which is the ability to record front end car park dings when parked up but it needs a permanent live via the 12v socket, which our ds3's don't have :-( any tech minded people on here able to assist? It's a lease car so don't wanna start buttering the wiring looms! Thanks

      Were you in GMP?
Initial or tactical phase pursuit out of interest?

        This.

You can easily get in under the cigarette lighter (just wedge a screwdriver under the side lip and lever gently). From there you should be able to run a live feed under the trim to wherever you need it.

No live feed from cig lighter when the ignition is off i'm afraid. I found my 12 volt from the fuse box. I drive a left hand drive 92 eHdi from 2011 and I found a black and yellow box with room for 5 mini fuses, of which only 2 in use. I modified one if the leads and added a fused(!) wire to get my constant 12 V+. Find a bare bit of metal for your -.

Getting a new lead in directly of your car better has been done before, but I couldnt find an easy way to get a wire from the engine bay to inside. Last resort would be adding a battery to last your camera when your ignition is off.

You're right on it not being an easy job. I ran a cable for my NOS from the battery via the firewall (it's located at the top of the engine bay underneath the plastic mesh). You'll need to position yourself with your head by the pedals in the drivers footwell to reach up to the rubber gromit on the inside (this also houses the washer jet tube for the rear window).

I poked a bigger hole into this using a screwdriver and ran my positive cable from there then used a bolt under the door trim as my negative.

            Good luck.

Den, yep GMP and initial pursuit only, which was still good fun ;-) wasn't allowed to play with the big toys lol ...... I may have a look at the fuse box and see if I can take a fused live from there and maybe hard wire it in, for now tho I have other things on my mind which I'm about to post a thread about in the cleaning and detailing section!!!

Ahhh I was over on the J for 6 years before I couldn't bear it anymore! Final straw before leaving was to apply for traffic but didn't even make the paper sift! Even with my sgt (ex traffic) completing most of my forms!
