  • Near Field Communication (NFC)

Just wondering if anybody uses NFC tags/fobs to change settings on their phones in the car?

Just ordered some to program to change settings on the phone such as turning the Bluetooth on and WiFi off when I put the phone in its usual place in the car, then have another in the house to turn off the Bluetooth off, Mobile Data off and WiFi on.

Clever little things, have an older one from a previous job with my website programmed in to it so that when I touch it to an NFC enabled phone it opens my site on their phone.

You can get them to put your contact details in their phone to.

    Anybody else use them?

It only works with Android, Windows and Blackberry phones, as usual Apple lagging behind

I've heard of it but never really used it.

Is it easy to set up / use?

Every time I renew my phone I have a pointless conversation!

                    Q. What do you want your new phone to do?
                    A. Make and receive phone calls and texts.

                    Q. How much data do you use?
                    A. None!

                    Q. What features do you need?
                    A. None!

At some point they get bored

JB (It's just an effing phone!!!!!!)

I used to work for a company trying to get banks to use your phone as your card. I think VISA are bringing it in late this year/early next year. I cant wait, such a clever technology.

Many places can use their phones to unlock their front doors, access their office using security barriers etc.

Our gate at work has it's own mobile and you can ring it up and ask it to open!
                        FFS what next?

I saw a video about some rings that no have NFC in them to do all these things, I like the idea of NFC but think in jewellery may be a little bit far. I may be wrong

I have one but never used it. I'm so used to putting the card in the machine and entering my PIN to pay it's too late by the time I realise I could have used the contactless.

We have cards at work that basically do the same thing. Works through my wallet too so I don't even need to find the thing, just beep my wallet to open doors and log in/out. It's very handy, although I've caught myself trying to open my front door at home using it before (after a very long shift).
