  • BMW Prince engine end of life

Despite the BMW Prince engine winning awards and being used in a large number of PSA BMW and Mini engines in MPI and GDI turbo guise it looks like this first gen GDI turbo engine is already slated to be replaced.

    In 2016 BMW in the Mini will retire the prince N13, N18 engine with a new range of B38 1.5L 100kW / 134 HP (3 cylinder) and B48 2.0L 140kW / 187 HP (4 cylinder) engines.

Citroen have announced EB Turbo PureTech engine will be introduced initially on the Citroën C4 and the Peugeot 308 in March 2014, followed by the Peugeot 208 (105g CO2/km), and lastly by the Citroën C3 and DS3 in July 2014.

On Performance, economy and emissions the engine was successful in meeting and exceeding expectations but has it's reliability has plagued it I think in the end costing more than an acceptable amount of warranty claims for timing chain and carbon build up issues in the THP.

Just like in the original DS Citroen brought out a great design and then scrimped on the engine to get it out and in production and didn't go through with the original flat 6 design for the car.

Have read up on this elsewhere. Only problem with a new engine, is that it sometimes it gets teething problems when put into mass production
Hopefully a step forward for reliability concerns though
