  • Static !!!!

happy new year everyone and all the best for 2011!

right i have a problem thats bugging the life out of me, every time i get out the car i get a bloody shock, when i touch the metal on the door or open the metal gates its there, i feel like a bloody duracell battery, its pissing me off as sometimes there quite strong !!
no one else who drives the car has complained but im getting fed up of it now, anyone know if its a fault or am i just being an arse ?

    shocking really !!
    anyone seen my leather seats?

Change your underwear................................. Seriously Its what YOU are wearing that creates the static when you slid you ass off the seat you charge yourself up and then discharge thro the car body work, its nothing to do with the DS3 most cars generate the same problem, although I think that those with leather seats are less prone to it.

You can get a static discharger which grounds your car when stationary this would help

I've had it too but I thought it was because I was wearing Crocs which sometimes cause static shocks. Means I've developed a fear of touching anything metal!

There's no gentle way to break this to you, Tony.

It's caused by the friction between your trousered backside and those wretched fabric seats...

We all feel your pain (although not literally, fortunately).

Not had the problem with the DS3, but always get it when driving the Fiat 500 my folks have. I get around it by placing my hand on a part of the bodywork before putting my foot on the ground and it seems to work for me. Give it a try.

First touch the metal on the door BEFORE you put your foot on the ground, prob solved. Just don't forget.

Or get one of those antio static strips fitted it abit of rubber which trails on the ground and is bolted to the body of the car im sure xr2 and escorts had them fitted back in the day. The strips dont look to good tho!!!

They may be effective when new but I doubt that they'll last long and as soon as they loose contact with the ground then they are useless, and yes they look B awful.

                              Car Cures
                              • Maintain contact with the metal part of the car door while you are getting out of the car.
                              • Rub the seats with a Fabric Softener Sheet.

(Research tested and proved, re-apply approximately every 3/4 weeks).
                              · You could try driving completely naked. Going out in public unclothed is not recommended though, and liable to get you arrested. It's doubtful the police would believe you're trying to prevent static build-up.
