Gear change squeak!

I have noticed a squeak recently when I change gear and it's driving me nuts!!!. I mostly hear it when changing down from Third to Second. Any suggestions for curing this annoying occurrence??? I am changing the gaitor at the weekend and wondered if a shot of WD40 down there would help or do you thing the squeak goes deeper than this??

Years ago my mates gear linkage made a sort of squeak, then they crapped themselves and it stopped I guess it's difficult to determine where the squeak originates from on the car ?

Cant see WD40 doing any harm at all. So a big squirt in order
