  • Emergency braking

    Hi folks

Quick question here. I had to carry out an emergency braking this morning which is the first time in my new ds3. Strange thing is that as I wanted to start moving again the brakes had seized on and couldn't move anywhere. What I had to do was turn the car off and on again before the brakes released and I could move again. Is this normal?

I am just asking because my old ds3 never had this problem.

I've not heard of it before, the only thing I've had happen is the car flashing the hazards if you slow down too quickly.

Wondering if the EBD system had fired on the car and for some reason didn't disengage control. Strange as I've never heard of it happening before, what I would suggest is to try on a quiet empty road another emergency stop and see if it happens again. If so then book your car in with your dealer for further investigation, if not then chalk to one of those odd things.

Thanks for the input guys. Will try a test emergency brake next time I am out and if the same will go to the dealer for a check. Did find it very odd. Was only doing 30mph at the time.

Every time i go in car after it's not been used for a few hrs the brakes are stuck on and just need a wee jolt to free them. I find that strange too. And brakes aren't on when I turn car off.

Kingpin87, When getting my car out of the garage in the mornings,I often get a clunking noise
as if the brakes are stuck on.this usually occurs if the car has been left for a couple of days, but
has been known to happen overnight.not really had this problem with any other car I have had.
Maybe it has something to do with the materials used on the Discs/Pads.

          Regards Tbart.

Nothing to worry about. It's just the pads very lightly rusting onto the discs - some pad materials, particularly those with steel wool in the formulation, will be more prone to it than others.

You'll also probably notice that for the first couple of applications in the morning the brakes tend to grab. Again, just rust on the discs & nothing to worry about.

Tried to re-create again and i think I'm too WOOSIE to get the hazards
              on?????
It really was a "WOH! " thing when it happened for 'real'.
But it's a bloody good idea cos when it happened for real i was
too busy breaking to remember to flick the hazards!!
