  • Theft Saga Continues...

Since getting the car back on Thursday I gave it a proper clean yesterday. The thieves had left it absolutely stinking inside and it was smelling strongly of smoke, coupled with all of the dust from the police taking fingerprints it was in hell of a state >.< As I was working away end of last week I hadn't really had chance to check the car over, so yesterday I was able to for the 1st time. Gutted.

Along with well over a grands worth of parts, tools and personal belongings (none recovered so only can assume they'd sold them on or binned them), I found the rest of the damage... They'd ripped off both of the side skirts (can only assume from racing over speed-bumps), dented the passenger wing, put a long deep gash in the rear bumper and totally destroying (was slightly damaged already) the passenger-side front wheel arch liner - Because this is now virtually non-existant my whole engine bay is caked in mud from them driving it through a field. Couldn't touch the engine bay other than a quick scoop up of all the thick mud - was too soul destroying.

Happy new year all ! >.<

Some parts I'm looking to buy cheap if anyone has any laying around and want to sell:-

    Drivers side skirt,
    Passenger side skirt,
    Passenger front wheel arch liner,
    Roof strips for roof bars.
    Roof bars,
    Roof bike holder,

    Mucho love x

Don't want to go through insurance, just having to take the hit myself.

Also I had to pay £150 to get the car back from the recovery centre ! >.<

This is why we have insurance, your car was stolen, the insurance company will pay out and seek to recover all costs via those responsible. (And that includes the £150)

Yeah I'd go through insurance as SfG said, those responsible have been caught so you'd expect them to pay up..... Scum

Do you have legal cover on your home insurance? You should be able to get something as part of the criminal case, or maybe civil.

Nope, I'm between moving into my own flat - that's the reason so much valuable stuff was in the car at the time

You should still be able to recover your costs, might be worth talking to the police/CAB to see how you do that.

Your reasons for not going through insurance are yours, but if it has been driven with no mechanical sympathy so much, can you be sure that the engine is all ok and not going to go pop. Is it going to be a write off if you claimed? If so, buy it back at salvage value and use the money to fix her up again. Insurance is for that very reason. Does the HPI always record it as stolen now, so resale value hit too?
