  • No main beam from headlights

My main beam failed to work on my drive home this evening. Sidelights okay, full beam okay, but despite light on dash no main beam. From the manual it looks like left and right have separate fuses, so I'm not expecting that to be the root cause. Could it? Any ideas how to diagnose the problem in daylight tomorrow.

    Will

Do you have standard OEM lights in the car or are they upgraded ? Also can you check the error log to see if it says anything ? Press Menu on your stereo head unit and use the arrows to get to the error log

You say main beam not working but full beam OK. Which is it? (main beam and full beam are the same thing - is it working or not?) Or is it dipped beam that isn't working?

Sorry, dipped beam isn't working, but sidelights and full beam are okay. (fixed autocomplete error)

Fingers crossed it just the bulbs going together. First job in the morning then to check them out. Now to find a thread on swapping a bulb...

              Owners manual to the rescue.

                Owners manual to the rescue.
Changing the bulbs is pretty simple, rubber caps on the back of the bulb, unhook the metal clips, take the bulbs out, unplug the bulb and put in the new one. Metal clips can be a bit fiddly but when you've done it once you'll be able to do it again easily, even at night as I had to recently.

I found it bit fiddly when first swapped one out, even lost the rubber backing for half hour down side of the engine LOL
And those paper clip retainers are a pain in the dark
But you live and learn :-)

As above they're v easy put the lights on before you start to make sure you're removing the blown lights and don't forget to not touch the bulbs when you fit the new ones, the grease from your fingers is supposed to cause them to blow quicker

Even if fused separate there will be only 1 relay that a computer is operating that actually sends the power to the lights.

One bulb changed and that one is now working. Looks like both bulbs failed together. Now to try and source another bulb in this little town.

Second bulb changed and now I have a full set of lights. I'll carry two spares in future then.

My thought too was the relay might be at fault.
