    Hello all,

I'm just wondering what people's thoughts on the 120 are.

I've always liked DS3s, and I test drove a vti at the weekend... Looking to buy a new one. On paper it seemed like a nice blend of economy and speed... but after reading this site it seems like they're slow and expensive to run!

So, yeah. What do we think?

Slow and expensive would be harsh and not quite fair. Slow compared to the THP155 and racing THP200. Expensive compared to eHDI90 perhaps. Less reliability issues with this engine for starters and no DPF issues of the HDI

Here's some comparison data on performance and economy between the VTi120 and HDi110 for you.
    PERFORMANCE DATA - VTi 120 5spd HDI110 6 spd

    Top speed:190 km/h / 118 mph 190 km/h / 118 mph

    0-60mph (s): 8.5 9.3

    0-1/4mile (s): 16.9 16.9

    0-1km (s):30.3 31.4

    50-70 mph on IVth 8.0 6.4
or top gear if number of gears <4:

    40-70 mph (s): 6.9 7.8
    with gear reduction:

    Fuel consumption:

    EU/ADR82 urban/extra-urban/combined:

    7.9 / 4.8 / 5.9 l/100km 4.6 / 3.4 / 3.9 l/100km

    35.8 / 58.9 / 47.9 mpg(imp.) 61.4 / 83.1 / 72.4 mpg(imp.)

120 vti is not the fastest thing in the world but its not the slowest ether. It all depends what you would be using it for the most. Long runs? Town driving etc.

Possibly also depends what you drive at the moment! I had a 1.4l 207 before my DS3 120 vti... so my DS3 feels quick!

I don't find it particularly expensive to run either, better mpg than my pug, lower tax... insurance is higher but only a few quid a month.

Perhaps one of the more important questions is how many miles per annum!
          High mileage = diesel.
Low mileage = petrol. Simplified but you know what I mean.

          It's a DS3 - you'll enjoy whichever you get!!!
          And welcome.

            Thanks for the replies!

I probably only do about 8 - 10k a year, so not really mega miles. I currently have a Grande Punto Sporting MJET so I quite like the torque sensation... but the trouble with the torque is that I use it, lol. So I'm only getting about 38mpg!

Well I kicked a Grande Punto Abarths booty the other night in my 120 and he was really trying to go for it. (Beat him all the way up to 30mph your honour).

If you are buying one new than the price difference between the two is so small that you might as well go for the diesel to get higher MPG and zero road tax, the other benefit is that the diesel version retains it's value better within three years.

The other thing to think about is use of the car, if your journeys are all very short runs, such as less than 5 miles, then the diesel wouldn't be a good choice. When the engine is cold the diesel is not very fuel efficient plus you will end up filling up the particle filter on a more regular basis.

It's not a case of which car is the best to drive but more a case of which engine suits your needs best.

Most of my journeys are less than 5 miles as you describe. I used to drive to Cornwall (from Kingston) when I was a student so I think I've got it in my head that I do that a lot, whereas in reality it's 3 times a year these days. Not that much!

Is it really loud on the motorway? In the reviews I've read they've said it's a quite drone-y.

I did 800 miles of motorway within 48 hrs and the road noise didn't bother me once.

You're quite right, the Abarth was terrible.
