  • Footrest and Post Service Issue

I put my car into a franchised dealer (although not Citroen) yesterday for the 37500 service. I had bought a footrest plate a while ago, hadn't got round to fitting it (in truth I was nervous about doing it), so I asked them if they could pop it on for me while it was in.

On collecting the vehicle I was somewhat stunned to have been charged £50 for fitting it! 50 bloody quid! I have rattled off a complaint to the head office as I would have expected it to be much cheaper than that. I had another DS3 and the same chain of garages fitted one free for me last time when it was in for a repair so thought nothing of it this time. Not happy.

To make me even less happy, my perfectly running car has magically developed a nasty oil leak since I got it back. Safe to say I will be making an irate call to them tomorrow morning.

Thats abysmal to be honest. Suppose they are charging by the hour. As it takes 5 minutes, thats £300 an hour

Personally i would have asked for a price for fitting before allowing them to carry out the work.

That way you didn't have to pay anything if they were going to rip you off.

I doubt they will give you any money back most garages charge by the hour, and 50 notes is cheaper than most!

As Toxic said you should have asked if there would be a charge so the fault really lies at your door. What you have been charged for is in my opinion an hours labour, which is a standard charge for most garages.

Happy to say that following my complaint the £50 was refunded to me today. The manager agreed that it was excessive and after spending £250 on a service this should never have been charged.

The oil leak was also fixed and they picked the car up from my work and dropped it off again with the fuel tank filled to the brim. It's amazing what a complaint to head office does!

Agree with others that I should have checked on the cost of fitting the footrest, I just assumed it would be free as it was last time.

Whether you should have asked for a price is irrelevant.

I worked in a garage & we would have done such a simple job as a courtesy/good customer relations. I did mine and it literally took 10 minutes

Those people who are suggesting that it was justifiable 'know the price of everything and the value of nothing'.

Really? Knowing what something costs is irrelevant?

I certainly spoke too soon saying the oil leak had been fixed. There is still evidence of a very minor (but still very annoying) leak. Each morning there are too oil marks around 12 inches apart on the floor. I had put it down to some oil lying in the engine but after 10 days that should not be an issue.

I am now having a terrible time getting the garage to even respond to my calls now and have had to resort to writing to head office again. There has never been any hint of a leak from the car until they got their hands on it.

Safe to say I will never be using this chain of garages again for anything. Having bought my last 3 cars from them it will be their loss.
