Also went back to a belt instead of chain +++++. Do not like the sound of "adjusting the size of the crankshaft" to reduce friction sounds like they made it smaller i.e. weaker. Does not bode well for power upgrades.

Yes this is the way of the world now engines are being designed for maximum efficiency, fuel economy, emissions and broad torque range with minimum service requirements and minimum serviceability as for any major problem a complete replacement engine would be warranted. Not like the old days when they were still trying to improve reliability and power output and would build in excess weight and friction to allow for larger more powerful versions in the future or owners to tune them up for racing. Just a throw away engine for a throw away car for a throw away world.
