  • ECOstart question

When I first got the car the ECOstart would only engage for about 30 seconds max before starting the engine with absolutely no input from the driver. Then it seemed to stay on for as long as needed (some really long lights near me), but today it was driving me nuts cos the 30 second max was back!

No settings have changed that I can think of.

    Any ideas?

I'm guessing that it's down to the hot weather. Air con working harder, fans coming on sooner, but I am no expert, and as most of my driving is country lanes, I have not had the opportunity to give mine a good test yet.

Yeah the aircon was on today actually. Bit annoying if that is what it is, will do some more trials to see.

Mine is the same. A Larger capacity battery solves this ;-) Or turning the Air Con off seems to help as already mentioned... Although, mine flashes Orange sometimes, I think this means the unit has over-heated?

Phil this has been discussed a few times now but to recap the control unit for the Stop & Start system runs through a checklist to determine whether the car can go into 'stop' mode or not.

In hot weather the drain on the system is quite large and what is happening is that the reserve battery is not charging up enough, hence the 30 secs. Nothing to worry about as the system is operating normally.

I wouldn't worry whether or not my stop-start function, if I had one, was working or not. It's nothing to do with real-life eceonomy, just a fiddle to get better EC consumption figures.

                Cynical, me?

I've been having the exact same problem with my DS3 today. I got a real shock today when I was in traffic with the Eco mode on, then all of a sudden the engine decides to start? So I'm assuming this is normal and this is nothing to make me go shouting at my dealer about?

Nope it's normal, a long drive to the FCS and mine will happily stay off for 20+ mins

Mines seems to always stay on until you touch the pedals, is there anyway to disable the aircon cause mines comes on everytime i start the car?

Do you not have an A/C button under the centre dash display ?

The car will autostart when you start the clutch - that's the point of the system
