  • carbon build up@ 21000 miles

    Hi,newbie here,my first post

Have just registered, and read a few posts regarding the R's problems with
carbon build up,just had mine fixed at Citreon Ayr,engine stipped and inlet
valves cleaned, new rocker cover gasket oil change and filter,so far £785,bought
mine second hand this year with 14500 on clock, started having problems around
21000,car hesitating running rough etc,is there anyway of avoiding this in the future
as I really love this car and when its running correctly its BEAST.

    Cheers....the wizz

Hi Wizz- welcome to the Club
Oooo, sounds like a lot of work, that also hit the wallet
The carbonisation of inlet valves hits all GDI engines (Inc the THP 155, the DS3 model below yours) and am afraid its just something that goes with the territory
It should help by fitting dual catch cans for front and rear PCV pipes, but it will never cease the carbon build up on the valves. Fuel cleaning additives, premium fuel may also help too. But you may be getting it decoked every once in a while

Racings are a great car, but it seems that their problems can go a bit further than just the carbonisation issues
Problems with pistons etc etc (Do some researc h on here)

Hope yours doesnt give you too much grief- keep having fun.

BTW- My carbon build showed itself at 18,800 miles, and my previous THP nothing had shown by 23,000 miles when it was traded in

Cheers Chris, thanks for the advice, yeah seems like it's something i'll need to live
        with,which I don't really mind,mines is black/orange at moment standard,but looking
to beef it up soon, nothing to drastic, had so many comments about it(all good)from
kids to oldies, even had girls stop me in slow moving traffic to admire it(that's got to be good)
yeah, will look into all options before deciding which tuning route to go down.

        Remember......if your not fast.....your last!!.......Cheers the wiz
