  • Engine Failure :(... DS3 Racing

    Hey Guys,

Today the Engine Failure message came up... the car is sounding different and a lot of smoke when i press the gas, I can't wait till monday to sent it to Citoren so I wanted to ask You guys, could it be anything other than piston failure as surely thats gonna take it away for a while ...?

Sounds exactly like what happened to mine. Good luck and let us know the outcome.

@Mike So what happned to be wrong with yours piston cracked ?

@Cyclone Cyclone, I know youve been active here as I red your name in every post Do you know if I can rebuild the engine with Wossner Pistons like Ragnarok did, or I have to get a new engine?

amazingly the pistons cracking seem to not damage the cylinder walls in most cases, so hopefully this is also the case if a piston went here. That would make the piston replacement a simple thing.

There's no Check Engine light tho, just the SERVICE one and the Engine Fault: Repair Needed on the screen...

My father did a test drive today, the car can accelerate but much slower and with a lot of white smoke and strange noise...

My father (former Rally Driver) says it coulnd't be the piston break as that would be more severe and there would be black smoke from the exhaust, and the white smoke that's coming out it's just from fuel... I hope he's right, although I know he didn't read too much about the THP horror stories and just thinks I'm too concerned, hope he's right

Mine lost compression in the second cylinder. I had a lot of white smoke from the exhaust as you've already described. Luckily mine was still within the garages 3 months warranty so they were legally bonded to fix it (even though they tried their hardest to dismiss that). In the end, new engine and no problems since.

I do hope yours is an easy fix!

                Thank You Mike,

I've just PMd you but got the answer now, thanks... I'm worried as my car it's not on warranty anymore just the KASKO ( as we call it here ) it's an additional 3rd party insurance company, but im not sure if they do include engine failures, they will get me a new one if it get burned tho... so maybe I should just burn the car if it goes that way haha jk...

I've read that new engine is around 8k and living in my country (Kosova) I think it will also take ages to come here ... so let's hope a engine rebuild is the worst that i have to do...

Thank You very much for your responses

                  Update Guys,

Today we sent the car at a Service (One of the best here) owned by a friend of my father... Did a compression test and there's no compression on Cylinder #3, he said he was 99% sure it was the Piston Ring, tomorrow we're striping it down to see if it did damage the Cylinder Walls and we're gonna start rebuilding it with forged internals...

Tomorrow I will start a Rebuild Thread and will provide you with all the pictures of the progress as I will be there during all the time in case someone is interested in seeing the process...

I do have a question if someone can help me, Jamie (SPTunning) suggested Mahle Power Pak Pistons for R56 Mini Cooper S, but they are available only in US, I know Ragnarok used Wossner on his but as I read here they are for DS3 and have a compression ratio of 10.5:1 instead of 11:1 (Racing)...

So, what are other forged pistons I can use for the Racing, as I can't seem to find any on the internet...?

Thank You very much for your responses

Good luck with the build buddy. In regards to the forged pistons I only know of Wossner and Mahle. I am uncertain to whether or not there are others but I'm sure someone will be around to tell you if there is.

Keep us updated and I hope it isn't too costly!

Pistons from the RCZ-R are Mahle forged uprated pistons... Good chance these will fit, but compression ratio is 9.2:1 I believe.

any chance you have the part number?

I imagine these would go nicely with a bigger turbo
