  • Question regarding which spring to use in a recirculation valve

    Hi there!

I recently bought a recirculation valve for my Citroen DS3 Racing and installed it. As you may know, there are two different springs (green and yellow) included in the tuning kit to control the boost pressure for the engine. Here is the link to the recirculation valve:

    http://www.forgemotorsport.com/Recir...duct--762.html

When looking on the forge internet page regarding the separate tuning springs, the following information can be found:
Valve Spring color coding: Green - 5-10 PSI, Yellow - 15-23 PSI, Blue - 23-30 PSI, Red - 30+ PSI.

    or in Bars:
    Green: 0.3 to 1.03 Bar
    Yellow: 1.03 to 1.58 Bar
    Blue: 1.58 to 2.06 Bar
    Red: 2.06 Bar

So my question is the following: Which spring should I use? The green or the yellow one? My car, the Citroen DS3 Racing, is NOT chipped or modified. As a result, the boost pressure should be around 1.2 Bars or 17.4 Psi.

It would be great if you could help me!

Seems you have all the info to make the choice.

      Thanks for the reply!

The reason why I am asking is that I sent a mail to Forge Motorsport including the same question and this was the response:

"Thanks for your email and running Forge product. For your currently application the green spring will be the best fit. If you had software to the car then you can upgrade to the yellow spring."

I have also seen a video on YouTube where someone states that the green spring is from 0.3 to 1.3 Bar.

What is it now? You know, I want to be sure that nothing goes wrong!

If your boost is 1.2 as you say, then its yellow

If it doesn't run right, try green :-)

        Just what I would do

Log your peak boost with an obd tool, then decide which Spring is needed from the data.
But my advise would be to ditch the forge valve completely and put the standard one back on with the VAG internals.

Thank you for the advice.. But why should I ditch the Forge valve and put the standard one back?

I find the forge valve is too slow to react and can stick. Causing noticeable lag on gear changes.

Any easy or obvious way to check for it sticking Jamie?

Yes, take it off and move plunger manually. Usually sticks in the open position.

Thank you for the advice! Can you recommend any OBD tool which works on the DS3?

Okay.. And which OBD2 dongle should I use to establish a connection between the device and the car? I tried an OBDII dongle with ELM 327 Interface but I am not able to connect my iPad with the DS3.

ELM327 should be supported. Is it a wired version or a bluetooth adapter? If the latter, try with a different phone and car and see if the issue is replicable still.
