  • DS3 R Engine problem

Our DS3 is now into its third week in our local main dealer! Engine had an intermittent hesitation, then came up with management light and was showing signs of noisy timing chain/adjuster/tensioner. It was diagnosed as valves needed cleaning, which was done and new plugs fitted, which they neglected to do at the 25k service.. Then on drive home, no turbo, service light on ( not due fro 5k miles) and repair immediately light on. Took it back, car sorted, collect car, drive home, same faults !!

Dealer is unable to discover fault and are now awaiting update or direct link with car to Citroen head office, whatever that means.

Also, Can any one supply info or a photo on the header tank on a DS3R, as ours has an outlet, pointing towards the front of the car, but this has no pipe attached!. I always thought that there should be an overflow return pipe from the header tank, but our friendly dealer says no, it never had one fitted so nothing to be worried about?
So if any one has a photo of their header tank, I would be grateful.

I don't have any pictures for you but just wanted to let you know this isn't an uncommon issue with the Racings. If it's still under warranty, Citroen usually resort to a full engine replacement in the end.

    Good luck!

From my research I think its already had one engine just over 12 months ago, car is now on 33K miles, still under extended warranty so fingers crossed. Wife loves the
car, I like the look of it but the build quality is shit. Has more rattles and creaks than our 15 year old mgzr 160 which we bought new.

The one at the bottom pointing forward? if yes then dealer is correct. No worry there.

Update..... Car is now entering its fifth week at the dealers, still no progress. Dealer is unable to diagnose the fault/faults. Citroen uk technical have upgraded it to level 1, then level 2 and now it has been passed to Citroen technical France. The dealer has not heard anything back yet. Citroen UK customer service have raised a reference number for this and a manger will call me back within 24 hours. I am not going to hold my breath! Dealer was supposed to call me with regard to the complaint questionnaire I returned to Citroen, no surprise that they have not!

On the plus side, it sounds as though they're gearing up to replace the engine.

                Another update.

Citroen have, after seven weeks and the issue having gone to Citroen technical in France, informed me that the car requires a new turbo. Funny that as one of the problems
was the turbo not working, still I suppose it is hard to diagnose !
Citroen have kindly offered a 50 percent contribution towards the cost. Despite the car being under used car warranty when it went in for initial diagnosis and the initial work being done under warranty, Citroen UK claim it had no warranty when the work had been done, funny that, as an extended warranty was purchase from Citroen whilst at the dealers having the work done and before the previous warranty expired. Citroen claim their records show no warranty, so I sent them a photo of the current warranty invoice. Not heard back from them yet on that one. Also Citroen UK claim because the work was done after the first warranty expired and they have no record of the car being logged by the dealer as having a problem before the warranty expiry it is not covered. I will enjoy sending them the receipt from the dealer showing diagnostic check for the problem
before the initial warranty expired. Have also been advise to check which specification oil was used when it was serviced, as the invoice just states oil! and the check that they installed the air filter correctly and did not pinch it as this can lead to turbo problems, according to another citroen dealer. My a0p0ologies for the long post. I love a battle.

Citroen still can't own up to the fact that they dun fucked up with the Racing engine. Seems they've ironed out the creases now though, as the THP 200 is available in the new DS3, DS4, and DS5.

Honestly wouldn't be surprised if they did a complete Racing recall and stuck the new THP 200 in all of them. But they won't, because that would cost a bomb
