battery charging light

Hi
im new to this site have had my ds3 for about 9 months had no problems with it until yesterday when coming home from work my battery charging light came on and wouldnt go off any advice

Chances are it needs a new battery.

The most likely cause is a failed auxiliary drive belt. If it's that the air conditioning will have stopped working.

Second most likely cause is an alternator failure.

Whatever the cause, your battery isn't getting charged, so it will very soon be totally flat, leaving car undriveable - you need to check it, or get it checked, as quickly as possible! If you've got a charger, charge the battery before trying to drive it as it may already not have enough charge in it to get you to a garage.

thanks for advice checked engine , oil etc topped up with coolant and this morning warning light has gone xx

Sounds strange that the light has gone out again, could be a battery on its way out, slipping auxilary belt or faulty alternator.

This sounds like an old fiat I had.

Battery light came on one day...took it to an auto electrician who stuck it on a multimeter and declared it was charging at over 14v. The diagnosis? The diode that controlled the idiot light was broken.

Amusingly if it got wet the light would work correctly..
