  • THP engine

Hi looking at getting a 66 plate DS3 165 thp prestige can anyone tell me if the latest engine has any problems as the dealer told me all the old faults have been sorted. Thanks for any info.

Did he also tell you what all the old faults were? If not we can reel off a quick list.

It's partly true, most of the old faults have been addressed in the THP165, but also it hasn't been around long enough to really prove if it is "fixed".

One thing you will still get is inlet valve carbon buildup due to the nature of the direct fuel injection, an unavoidable but treatable thing. Use premium high octane fuel e.g. BP Ultimate, Shell V Power; and make sure to give it a good thrashing once every journey when warmed up to help burn the carbon off. These should help slow the buildup, but when it gets to 25-35k miles it should be walnut blasted. The good news about walnut blasting is it removes almost 100% of the carbon. The bad news is that only one place in the country carries this out for the DS3: SPTuning in Hinckley. Citroen garages will reluctantly clean the valves by hand if they get really bad, but that costs a hell of a lot more and the more buildup you have, the more likely it is to cause misfires or even break off into the engine and cause all sorts of damage to the pistons and turbo.

I'm always surprised when dealers claim 'all the issues are fixed' on cars, when most of the time the manufacturer refuses to accept there are any issues

No worries, if you've read the various threads you'll be pre-warned about potential issues with the THP and the diesel (DPF etc) and can keep an eye out for them
