  • Heated Windscreen Washers

    Hello guys,

With the idea of a freezing winter ahead of us I started looking around for a solution to not having to scrape my windscreen on a cold winters morning.

Wondering if there is any of you out there that have retro fitted a heated washer system and if so what system did you go for?

I'm currently looking at a Heatshot system £179.99 Inc Vat, link below. Your thoughts are welcomed.

    Cheers,
    Richard

If you want to do it. For me turn the car on and let it warm up a bit while scraping the windows and then away you go but like I said if you think its worth it? I once installed an auxiliary heater just because didn't like a cold car in the morning an it was a hell of a lot more than 180.

Hot water bottle on the dashboard during breakfast is pretty cheap.
Or have your butler do it?

A system like that won't produce anything like the amount of heat you'd need to clear a frosted-over windscreen.

£179.99 will buy a LOT of washer fluid!

I use some snot-green coloured stuff from Halfords Use it neat & it shouldn't freeze in a British winter - from experience it's certainly OK down to -8 degrees!

Why spend £179.99 when a much easier and cheaper solution is to have Duxback applied? £25 for windscreen from Halfords Autocentres.

Heated windscreen. Can't argue with that.

Because Ford own the patent (I read somewhere - can't remember where)

Other manufactures do it in rallying though

Yes- had a few fords with these- they are great (And patented as said)
Lots of very fine wires, like steel wool, when you get up close

They have a patent on the way that the window is heated (the fine zigzag wires). They supposedly help to not to focus your sight on them. Other ways have been tried i.e. straight wires and waveform wires. Aviation windows use a conductive film that is laminated into the window no wires at all except on the edges. The consept of a heated windscreen is free game. Also that patent should either be about to expire or has expired.

Just fill your washer bottle with pure vodka, that stuff won't freeze until it hits -40c outside
