The reason for the reduced signal is nothing to do with the length of the aerial but rather the type of aerial.
By going for the GPS Aerial from other Citroen's (C5, C4, etc.) you are going to get poorer signal as these aerial where never designed for radio signal in the first place.
Best advice would be to use the normal aerial day to day and switch out for the GPS one at meets and shows.
...I should never have doubted the Lord of Bacon!!
The solid copper stubby aerial I replaced OEM with is great- and sprayed black plastidip
But I understand that with Sat Nav inbuilt to the DS3 it needs a stronger reception and my aerial may not cope
I haven't got Myway or whatever, so doesn't interfere with me.
I have the C5 aerial for shows (as Biggie suggested) but it's useless driving around as the RDS signal is easily lost when using it.... I followed a tip here (might've been Soran's tip) and removed the cap from my standard DS3 aerial, hacksawed it shorter, rewound the copper wire back around the top and refitted the cap
That has worked fine ever since It's not a stubby but it is a shorter aerial, you could do it in stages to ensure you don't lose the signal with the first cut of the aerial mast.
