  • Tuning Boxes

    Hi to all,

I know that resources on these tune boxes are everywhere in the internet, but so fat I have not come across realistic reviews from every day drivers. I do stay in Denmark where remapping is an unknown word.
I was wondering if those tuning boxes can REALLY offer better torque at low rpm. I am new also to Diesel engines. I drive the 90 b hp diesel version.
Any suggestion or any review of the forum friends would be invaluable.

    Thank you much

I have had a couple of tuning boxes on 2 different bmw diesel models as ecu maps were not available at the time. They did increase the torque and power ( one was proved on a rolling road ) but the preferred choicewould always be remap if available. If you do go for a box I would suggest that you don't go for a cheap version and also choose one with adjustable settings, the down side can be black smoke from the exhaust under hard acceleration

Common consensus has always been to avoid these like the plague. In most cases, they're sold with generic values meaning they're not specific to your vehicle (even if they're advertised that way). Meaning you could parameters set on the ECU that are above/below operating thresholds which could cause you a heap of problems further down the line.

How about a nice drive out of the country to somewhere that can do the job properly?

It will give a good punch low down but power fades out as the revs higher usually. How it does this is what I don't like. You'll have fun getting to the rail pressure connector :-/

Well these were my thought initially..Unfortunately here its hard to get a remap solution due to the fact that Danish do not "touch" these things. Or it is because so far I had not come across a remap place to go. A good trip to the UK could do the job in the near future!

Thanks you all for your replies

Dionysis, why not a remap in Germany? I think in Germany you have enough possibilities to have your car remapped
As an example SKN in Hamburg

I have one on my Seat Leon FR diesel .... it does make a good bit of difference in the lower rev range with additional torque, i have noticed a few extra MPG which i think is down to not having to plant your foot as much while overtaking etc
No management lights or extra soot

                  Hi Dionysis

I am shure Tomas Landberg can do a remap on your DS3
                  http://chiptuning.nu/shop/frontpage.html

I have been using a Race Chip Pro for 3 years now, it was Tomas Landberg that originally recommended that solution because it was cheaper than a Remap and my car was leased at the time.

                  https://www.racechip.com/chiptuning/...68kw/index.php

The one I have is called RaceChip Pro2 now.
I am still happy with mine, but that is probably because I have not tried a remap yet.

One thing though, you have to make a Cold air Induction kit like this:
                  http://www.ds3club.co.uk/showthread....kit+Hdi90+part
                  To feel the full potential
A friend of mine has put in a Race Chip Pro to, but no induction kit.
With my setup I can adjust the chip much further than he is able to, because of the better flow.
                  All the best, MortenT
