  • Need suggestions for new brake discs

A recent service has flagged that my brake discs have rusted quite badly and need replacing and I got an extortionate quote from the garage (it's the only Citroen dealer on my island so they charge whatever they want and the rich folk pay it.)

So I was looking to get something decent elsewhere and fit them with some help from my cousin who works at a Citroen garage. I've also had 17" Lenso RS5's fitted so if there's anything that works well and compliments those then that would be great

My model is a 1.6 HDi Dstyle 3D (Diesel).

    Thanks!

    Sam

Rusted badly how? If it's just surface rust, brake more.

I'm almost certain it's beyond that point now. I did that almost a year ago which cleared it up a bit but I can actually feel it affecting my braking now.

It makes a horrid noise when braking at low speeds or downhill which I'd like to be rid of...

Try http://www.eurocarparts.com/. Can get discs on there for fairly cheap

            better late than never ^^.
standard discs are fine for daily driving, dont need anything better.
If you want looks or drive quicker/spirited then you may find uprated pads give better performance, i.e yellow stuff EBC or the ds2000 range from Ferodo?
for Looks or track day use, the likes of dimpled or groved discs like the EBC range are decent.
I've recently found a company called PB brakes, they do larger brakes kits for under £1,000, any colour you like with new calipers (havent tried these yet)

I'm currently using EBC dimpled and grooved discs with Yellow stuff pads, they get better with temperture rather than fade, though i dont normally do too many laps, mostly spirnts (short point to point race) similar to hill climbs.
they have great bite when new, better braking than standard but not a HUGE step up from standard.
I've heard plently good reviews from the DS range brake pads from fredo (please do check the spelling of the name, its something like fredo.)

I wouldn't trust a main dealer with their own life. I expect you can probably clean them up

I disagree on two points, i run EBC the same as you but green stuffs, Vanilla pads and disk offer poorer performance and last fewer miles per £ in my experience.

Oh yeah, totally agree, i forgot about service life. the EBC's lasted more than 3x the standard brake life with a lot left.. good point

I have the Brembo brand high carbon drilled discs, seem pretty good so far. As far as I'm aware Brembo don't manufacture they're own discs or pads, only calipers. So who makes the discs I don't know.

I have been using pagid front discs and pads for a while now and as long as you are not tracking them they are ok
the only trouble is you may have to change more often
