  • Oil discussion

My annual oil change is coming closer and I thought what Oil is the best for my driving style (THP155). We have 5W30 and 0W30 recommended by Citroen, but the Mini R56 also has the 0W40 recommended. So I think the best oil for long high speed highway drives should be the 0W40, am I right?

Higher viscosity for higher temperatures right?

Stick to the manufacturer's recommendation! Long motorway drives, even at Autobahn speeds, aren't really working the engine, or the oil, very hard.

Sounds logical to use the recommended oil and viscosity.

How often should you change it is the question you need to be asking.

            Every year (approximately 9000 miles).
But will a 0W40 be better when you have Stage 2 or 3? The Mini Guys which drive alot on the Nurburgring recommend 0W40. And the Cooper S has the same engine like the DS3...

I've been using Motul 300V Competition 15W50 for a year now, and I simply love it, it feels smooth and it loves to rev... I've also discussed this with my tuner and mechanic and they both say if you can 'afford' it go for it. on my last change I had almost no oil loss... they also advertise on improving performance and better protection from Ester Core, but I'm sure someone know more than me about performance 'gains' from oil....

The only downside is that you have to warmup the car for 3-5 mins and change oil every 5000miles, but I'm ok with that, as I would still change it before it's 'due' time anyway

and I've used that during the winter too...

For stage 2/3 I think is better to use an ester base oil..they provide the best engine protection and will also feel the engine be more active . Motul v300 and Redline oils are very good oils for tuned engines.

My tuner (a mini-peugeot specialist) recommended me to stay on 5w30 full synthetic as the 5w40 will be too thick for our engine and it will cause more slough-ash on the valves
i am using ardeca 5w30 pure sport 100%synthetic double ester...ardeca oils were developed with sebastian loeb
very good oil and also never had to topup the oil

Have you thought of a friction reducing additive such as ZX1 micro Oil (I think) which you add at a rate of 5% ?
Its pricey but I am giving it a go on my Clio gearbox soon

and it is for engine oil too
