  • Summer weather engine protection advice

Summer is coming soon and in my country during summer wehave average temps of 35degrees daily during daytime and also warm nights
When i upgraded my downpipe and exhaust system they removed both the heatshield of the manifold and also the turbo heatshield due to the bigger exhaust pipes...my engine temps now are much higher and my aircondition power was reduced to half due to the heat the engine produces
The only solution i can think of is titanium heat wrap for my downpipe and a turbo blanket for my turbo to reduce heat
I ve read that by doing this though the downpipe and turbo 'dont breathe any cold air and they become red hot and after some time they crack due to the excessive heat
Is there any other solution i can do? I could find any aftermarket exhaust heatshields for the ds3thp anywhere

For our rally car we used a product simliar to this:

      http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalo...xhaustwrap.php

to wrap the manifold as well as a huge part of the exhaust to keep the heat inside the exhaust system and away from the rest of the engine compartment.

Didn't expect that! I have ordered stuff from them before.

This wrap is easy to install and works well.
We had to do it because the exhaust became glowing red during the stages and also the middle tunnel became so hot it melted away you shoe soles if you accidently touch it.

as an aside, i assume you change your engine oil more frequently? Always a help. Every 5k miles ?

Could you please share info if you have managed to control the heat from downpipe /exhaust manifold/turbo during hot summer temps? Thanks.

That's what I thought would be the best option turbo blanket+titanium tape wrap for downpipe. If you see the video attached on 0.22 second there is a stainless steel heat shield next to the downpipe. I guess it could be fabricated as I could not find similar heat shield for sale on internet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTLB3JQVxmw&t=36s

Yes you are right I was also searching for a heatshield to buy but couldn't find anywhere...If you live in a hot climate country as I do if you are planning for an induction look for one with an airbox otherwise you will not gain any bhp

It is very hot in summers...it was like 35-40c mostly. I am not thinking of aiding induction kit just pipercross or ITG air filter. I just wonted to be sure if I add downpipe that there is a solution for heat during summer (turbo blanket+titanium wrap for downpipe) otherwise there is no point in adding downpipe if the heat will melt down the plastic head cover and air conditioning will hardly cool interior.
