  • LED Bulbs

    Hi Guys

New owner here and have a question about LED Bulbs.
I Have recently fitted my DS3 with a HID kit which is all good and want to change the sidelights and Interior Light to white LED's. I Bought some Phillips ones but when i fit them, they seem to light up very dim when plugged in but not switched on, the interior bulb flashes aswell.
I know its not the best description but i hope someone has had the same problem and can help me fix it, don't want to continue buying bulbs for them not to work.
    Thanks in advance

I put some LEDs in the interior and mine are a bit odd too.

When turning on they go on, off, then on again; and when turning off they go off, on, then off again.

They also glow in a low-power mode when the engine is running and for about 45 seconds after turning the engine off and locking up. I tested this one very carefully to make sure they aren't draining the battery.

I just got used to it, as the extra brightness is worth the flashing. If yours are flashing continuously, make sure the connections are straight. The old bulbs had a folded double wire on each side to stabilise it but the LEDs usually only have a single wire which can get pushed sideways while plugging them in as it's a tight fit.

Make sure your led bulbs are canbus ones

Cheaper ones tend to claim that and then they're not when installed

I had the same issue with the sidelights on my DS3, in the end I stopped buying cheaper ones that claimed to be canbus error free and spend a little more. After that, I didn't get any further flashing of the lights, well except in car parks at night but I have no idea what was happening there officer

I'm hoping you don't mean you installed HID headlights in the standard reflector housing? Because that's a sure fire way to blind and **** off incoming drivers

I have LEDs on the interior of mine and same as Ben's they are "Error Free" they still glow slightly.
From my limited electrical knowledge, there's a slight current passed through even when the switch is off; not a problem with filament because it doesn't heat it enough to glow but the LED's will still glow slightly.
If it's an issue, I'd suggest somehow fitting a resistor between the bulb and the contact.

I don't notice but if it bothers you, it shouldn't be too hard to fix.

Also, HID's without the right reflector housing can be illegal and hella annoying for other drivers so be careful!

Ben, That is exactly what mine do. I didn't buy cheap ones, never do. I bought Phillips bulbs that state they are correct for interior lights on a DS3 and also state error free.
I fitted the HID's but had them checked by my local garage as have had complaints on previous cars. They said they are legal and will not blind as have been adjusted to the correct height.
