  • Downpipe and Decat for DS3 THP

I've been to a local exhaust specialist shop yesterday and they guy told me that he can install a wider downpipe and remove the catalyst from my THP, this will give me around 6-8bhp and a bit of torque through the whole rpm range. The problem is that the 'check engine' warning light will come on, but he told me they can delete it very easy.

My wondering though if deleting the check engine warning will it be off all the time, therefore when there is a problem with the engine the light will not come on? Also are there any other risks of running the engine with out any catalyst or any other issues i should know ?

They can delete it by removimg the bulb?, i would say that if they do that if u have any other ems issues the bulb wont light, but im no expert. Ive ran decatted before i just put up with the light

The question you need to ask is the 6-8hp really going to make that much of a difference to go through all the hassle? The check light will come on again and stay on unless you re-program the entire ECU, the other problem with this is that the Check light covers a whole load of things which you will be unaware of if running without the CAT.

        correct Biggie

the check light will come on due to the lamba sensor not being plugged into the exhaust
this can be desensatised within the ecu settings or another old common trick is to have the lamba sensor in the exhaust ( make the necessary fittment) but when attaching the sensor to put a few wasers around it to take the sensor part out of the middle of the exhaust flow
Supersprint do complete exhaust packages for the Thp
but make sure you are sitting down when you get the price

Just have a boss weilded to accept the Lamda Sensor in a differant position then the ecu can still see it ..............I owned a mitsi Evo 8 before the ds3 and had a complete de-cat system fitted and the evo had the same problem and by refitted the lamda elsewhere solved the cel coming on ..................................Steve

You also can go for a sport catalyst underneath the car.
These sport catalysts you can buy from HJS (100 cpsi or 200 cpsi)

Supersprint is also using sport catalysts from HJS so the quality must be good

I know Fabian but supersprint is selling them at a price of around 750GBP sport catalyst only..with that money i can put a bigger intercooler in my car rather than a catalyst
I was looking for an economical solution, what i was trying to say in my thread was to have a specialist remap the ecu so that the check engine light will go off but hopefully when there is an engine issue will come on,but still there is a risk ..

For that sort of money you could have a custom downpipe with no cat and a full system made, probably at Longlife exhausts or similar. Then when it comes to /serviceMOT time, just put it all back together.

Eagle, I am not sure if you are still part of the ds3 community, but I already have my downpipe and i've been told the same thing as you. How did you fix the engine check sign in the end?
