  • Exhaust-backboxc question

I am looking for an upgraded exhaust for my ds3 thp. There are a few companies that have available performance exhausts for the thp.

I wanted to ask though if anybody knows if there is a significant difference between a branded backbox/silencer such as miltek, remus etc. and one from a local performance exhaust, to be more precise what i am asking is this":

For example miltek's backbox price is around 550.00 + fitting. A local exhaust specialist shop (universal type that can fit the ds3 thp with a few modifications and is also a free flowing backbox/silencer) can fit one to my car for the price of 280 incl fitting.

So what's the difference between the two? If i go with a branded name such as miltek will my car run with out any troubles at all? and if i go with the 'cheap' local shop option will that one give me any reliability problems in the future? Also i think if its a branded silencer-backbox or a universal one and both have same diameters and are stainless steel they will both give about the same gains in performance?

Looking forward to your suggestions and advice
    thanks

Either way you go you should get a warranty for the product.

I don't think "cheap" is the correct term to use.

I chose custom for the opportunity to be unique. No other DS3 is going to sound exactly the same as mine.

Go with a custom made one and save yourself the extra pennies just for a name.

If i go with a custom made backbox and save the extra money for something else is there any possibility to have any problems in the future with my car, such as the engine not running very well, engine check light or catalyst problem?
      thanks

From just the backbox it's not very likely. The chances would be the same as they would be with having a different slip-on on there.

If you're going for a full system I couldn't tell you.

I know Lenny has a full system and he's currently having issues but I'm not 100% sure if the two have any relation to one another.

Hi Guys, sorry to use someone els' blog to post my question, but cannot creat my own for some reason.

I got a 11 plate ds3, special adition. Just done 8000miles, and all very good until tonight. I drove a mile up the road to a friend's and when I stopped I got this funny 'burning plastic' smell. At first I thought it was something in the air, and did not take much notice of it. When we came back to mine, the smell was there again. I smelled around, under the hood and wheels, but it seems to come out of the exhaust. Has anyone had the same thing happening to them, or know if it is something to be worried about? I'm quite a sensible driver, so not pushed the car to its limits or over revving it at all? Not changed the oil yet, but was going to do that on 10k.
                Any help would be great!

Possibly DPF Fluid Burning In The Exhaust ? I Know That Stuff Smells Funny,

I'd Check With Your Dealer If It Carries On !

                    Diesel?

Might be worth getting it up on some blocks and seeing if there's any shrink wrap or something got caught up on the underside of the car. If you've been for a particularly long run the bottom of the car will be roasting and could easily have burnt through a carrier bag or similar..

Thank you for the replies. It is the diesel engine.
What makes it so strange is that I drove for less than a mile, and the exhaust pipe was still cold to touch. I let my car idle and smelled the fumes that came out of it. That was the first time I noticed the smell coming from my car, and as I have no idea about car (other than to drive) I got worried...

Regarding the smelly post, it'll be the DPF regenerating, they emit a burning smell as it has to heat upto something like 600 degrees to burn off the excess soot
