Winter tyres plus steel rims

Found this link today whilst hunting for something else.

enter DS3 THP and it comes up with results - some of which are cheap!

Didn't have chance to check the detail on size etc. but thought I'd post it anyway

Could you please advise me if you, as insurer of my Citroen DS3 DSport THP150, would have any issues with my fitting a set of Citroen steel wheels shod with 195/55 R16 87H (max 210 km/h) WINTER tyres in place of the standard alloy wheels with SUMMER tyres 205/45 R17 88V XL BSW (max 240 km/h). from say November thru March

I believe that it is accepted practice in Europe to fit these narrower higher profile tyres during winter

I regard this a great reduction in risk since the wider summer tyres afford little grip on the snow and ice regularly encountered in Derbyshire. I believe the reduction in speed rating is irrelevant since 210 kph is well over the speed that I can legally travel in this country and I have no plans to travel on German autobahns.

I can confirm we can insurer your vehicle if Winter tyres are fitted to the vehicle . Providing the Winter tyres are suitable for the vehicle.

In the event of a claim we will only replace the tyres with normal standard tyres

Tried to get them to confirm that 195/55/16s would be acceptable to them...............

I can confirm that providing the Winter tyres are suitable for the vehicle, we can continue to provide cover with no amendments needed to the policy.

Additionally, we do not need to know any details of the size of tyre or wheel you will be fitting.

Biggy tells me that he is not aware of any official guidance from Citroen on 'suitability' (thanks Dave) so looks as though I'm good to go with 195s as fitted on other DS3 models

If the outer diameter matches the original set, it should be ok... Then again, we went for the original size for the winter.
