Hi guys, for a while I’ve been meaning to spray the front grille and fog light surrounds black with plastidip, have been putting it off for a while. But finally got round to doing it yesterday, as no one has really put any pictures up of how it’s done I thought I might as well share and maybe help a few people out who are looking to do it.
Obviously first step was to make sure all the chrome was cleaned up nice so there was no contamination on it that would prevent the plastidip from sticking as best as it can. I used just water and you don’t want to apply and kind of chemicals as such prior to the plastidip.
Second step was to mask off the area around the grille and fogs, use masking tape and newspaper, seems to work well. Also I found it was best to mask the inside of the grille as well just for safe measures.
Third step is the actual application of the plastidip, it’s relatively straight forward as it says on the tin. I put a total of 4 coats on and left around 10-15 minutes between coats. Then around 2 hours dry time before driving. A tip if suggest which really works well is to find a container that will fit the can of plastidip in and fill it with warm water. Leave the can in the warm water prior to application and also between coats as this brings the paint to a better temperature which stops it from spitting and gives a much more even, fine coat and prevents it from running as much as possible.
Last step is once the paint is dry, remove all the paper and tape. And admire your work. I’ll leave some photos below of mine. Hope this helps a few people.
Thanks, Tom
