  • Lowering Springs

SO basically the title says it all; I'm looking for some lowering springs for my VTi. I know people rave on about coilovers, but they'rte a little out of my price range just now so I figured I might look into getting some lowering springs to improve the car's looks a little.

Only problem is that I'm quite useless with the technical side of things lol.

Basically was just looking for anybody with experience of having lowering springs fitted to fire some knowledge my way.

I mean, if you have good experience with them, then please share. But conversely, if you hate them and would never user them then that's cool too. Either way, just looking for some pros and cons here .

    Cheers folks.

I have a set of Eibach springs fitted which drops the car by 25mm at the front and about 10mm at the rear. Gives the car an agressive nose down stance. From a practical point, they have certainly sharpened up the handling and havent particulalry harmed the cars ride quality. I would definately recommend them. As for fitting, I got them done through my local tuning shop so cant comment on fitting them.

Availability is not a problem, just google eibach springs and you will get plenty of hits.

    Cheers,

    Coops.

Coilovers are great but if you don't relish performance driving, and ride, they can be a bit overkill Lowering springs are a great alternative for a good ride and lower stance with a bit of sportiness thrown in. As to the actual fitting there should not be much difference in cost between the 2 as the fronts the most work and the old strut has to be removed to change the spring anyway. The rear is dead simple and goes very quick. Do not forget the car will need an alignment after to make sure everything is adjusted to the proper angles.

          Cheers guys, much appreciated.

Surely though, there must be at least one downside? (Except for warranty issues). Trying to get the bigger picture here lol.

As AdJones said the downs are much the same for both just a matter of degree. Lower ride height - what is your normal drive like any steep inclines or speed bumps? Harsher ride - How are the roads around you, full of holes and patches or smooth sailing? Could be a reduction in the load carrying capacity of the car - do you carry lots of stuff?. I'm sure there are others but the plusses tend to outway minuses in many peoples eyes. Only you can decide if there right for you.

I think I'm gonna go for it and get it lowered. What do I need in total to have it done?

Jumping on this topic aswell, I've read somewhere (i even thought it was here), that when u get your car lowered, u also need to replace your coilovers matching to the springs u place. Seeing u lower the car, you'll put stress on the standard coilovers having them pressed in without being on the road (hope this makes any sense?). Is this really worth looking into, or can U just lower your car without the extra cost of aftermarket coilovers?

I ran lowering springs with standard shockers on my C2 for 2 years. Not one problem with the shockers. I think im just going to go for spax 35/40mm springs on the DS as im not fussed about extreme road handling, its good enough as it is.
