  • Replace license plate holder

    Hi,

Got a lease black DS3 with chrome mirrors. Got it from a colleague and still have to drive it for 3 years. Think the chrome is a bit much... so I want to take it a little further.
Want a chrome license plate holder. Nothing fancy, but it's a start. I believe these are standard for all european cars?
Is there anything I should know before I buy one? Is the fitting all standard or are there differences?

    Got any tips?

    Regards,

You should have no problems with anything you buy from the likes of Halfords or online, the only thing to bear in mind is that the mounting holes may in a different position which mean you may have to re-drill. Also I would suggest offering up one to the front of the car in order to see if it will fit in with the bumper.

So if I buy one like this: http://www.gomaxx.com/vmchk/Exterieu...Kunststof.html
That should be allright? Got lots of mounting holes so I'm almost sure one must be in the proper place. Problem is Halfords doesn't sell them so I'll have to order them online. Not such a big issue but can't see if they fit before I buy them. Could buy one first and see if it fits on the front, then buy the other. But with the shipping cost being almost as high as the cost of the item that may be quite wastefull.

Got any experience with fitting new holders to the front?

Or you could try one of these plastic bought on Ebay. I had to make new holes to fit and it does slot into the front bumper with ease.

Suggust that you use a bradawl rather than a drill just in case the holes you make are too big. Enables me also to insert and remove my show plates.

It is only a British thing I believe (The poppy)
No doubt all countries involved have their rememberance motifs- quite right

It's indeed a Brittish thing. Never seen it on the continent, only on Top Gear, which is where I know it from.

I've looked at the front of the car and I see where I can run into problems. That space is indeed not ment for most license plates. I couldn't see that well since I came home at around 10 and it was quite dark. But it looked like it's a fixed license plate holder and not intented to be fit with a custom one?

Allthough this picture shows a car with a chrome front:
