  • Removing interior roof light

    Hi,

Wanting to change the interior light with something stronger. Tried it yesterday but couldn't get the plastic cover to come off, now it has a little crack in it. I just placed the LED's in the footwell and that works fine, they are crazy bright. Now I do want to change the roof light as well, so I'll order some new lights. But can anyone give me a tip to get the plastic cover off?
I looked in the manual and it just said I could click it loose from the side of the buttons but I need a lot of force to do this and it's allready cracked a bit. What is the best way to get it off?

I would image that you would need to tease the tags which should be on the short sides, try pushing gently a flat bladed screwdriver and see if that does the job.

On a side note why would you need the interior lights brighter?? Only one reason comes to my mind!

I tried that but it didn't come loos at all, needed a lot of force and is now cracked on one side.

Reasy I need it brighter is because I find it quite dark when I enter or exit the car at night or in a parking garage. Would like more visibility. I am also upgrading the light in the trunk, but that one is easy, and the light in the glovebox.

there are 8 little tags the 2 end ones are the problem ones i found, but as Bigfeet says gently prise them with a very thin screwdriver or something thinner if you got something. a little bit of tenderness is required doing this im afraid but it is do-able

ive circled the 8 clips, sorry 3 are behind the circuit board but when you have yours out you will see them

heres mine just to show you it can be done

        hope this helps

That helps a lot! Just click those 8 things loose and it should come off it seems. I'll get a small kitchen knife for it, those are relatively unsharp and quite thin. Do you have an indication how much room there is for bigger lights?
Will lights like these fit or are they too long?

i would say too long but is that what you put in for your floor lights if so then i would suggest taking out the floor light and tring it to see
this is what i went for

Yeah I'll check that, allready ordered new ones for the boot and the glove box and hoped I could order one for this right now.

Maybe some like these will fit: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10x-Pure-W...eb5cb62&_uhb=1
Or perhaps one larger like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-T10-W5W-...e49b3e6&_uhb=1

Will measure it and see how it works, thnx!

first one looks good but got my doubts about second link maybe a bit too close to cover for my liking UNLESS you keep the cover off for the brightness

I won't leave the cover off, I'd rather downsize the lights than drive without the cover. I'll measure it and see how much room there is.
