  • Replaced boot light, faint glow

This morning I replaced my boot light with some LED's. These ones to be exact.
I removed the old lamp with the boot closed and me sitting on the rear seats. The light was completely turned off. Then I inserted the new lamp and immediately the lamp started glowing very faint. The lamp works fine, pressing the boot open button turns on the light and closing the boot turns the light off, except for that faint glow. I have removed the lamp for the time being, don't fancy my battery being drained or anything like that.

Why is it glowing and what can I do about that?

That's quite common with LEDs. Normally this won't be a problem for your battery. LEDs use very little power, you have proof right there, they glow a little even when there's "no" power. You could try fitting a little resistor, than it won't glow anymore..

The glow itself is not really a problem, I was more concerned about the side effects of a constant glowing light. If I understand correctly the power is "off" but there is very little current running trough that wouldn't trigger a normal light but does trigger an LED light? Then am I correct in asuming the power drain is there regardless of the type of light? So both lights drain power but this one just shows it by glowing a little bit?

I'd be a bit cautious after reading this

Read there that it was the canbus ones with the load resistor. Apparently the load resistor gets hot and seeing as these lights don't have a load resistor (hence they glow when off) they should be fine.

But that is all based on my tiny understanding of electronics.

Unless you're leaving the car standing for a couple of weeks without taking it out for a spin I really doubt an LED is going to drain enough charge from your battery.
