  • Forge: Difference between Blow off valve, blow off adaptor and recirculation valve

    Hey guys,

I am about to buy a new blow off valve/dump valve but I can't really distinguish between the three options offered by forge:

    Recirculation valve:
    http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/con...oduct=FMDVDS3R
From what I read this one is quiet than the others

    Blow off piston valve:
    http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/con...oduct=FMDVDS3A

    and blow off adaptor:
    http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/con...roduct=FMDVMCS

Can anyone enlight me as to what are the difference between the three, or they all do the same exact work?

    Thanks!

Hi I have the recirculating valve only reason I went for it was to stop the slight pause when putting your foot down and it did stop it which is great . Did not want the noise that the others make if that helps

      Thanks ds3r,

That's the one I am leaning towards to. I just was wondering what the differences are between all of them.

        Same for me here!
Because I've also have the Forge induction kit, I already have the blow off sound, and with that, I don't want any extra noise!
Also what DS3R says. the response after shifting gears is a bit better. Less Turbo Lagg

Besides above, with the standard valve you hear the blow off sound with every movement of the throttle.
With the forge one, I know only hear a sound when shifting gears when accelerating a bit faster!

Anyone know the difference between the forge blow off spacer adapter and the spooled up one listed on eBay for £20? Are you just paying for the forge name? Or will the £20 one be no good?

A blow off adapter would just be for the sound.. In that case I would buy an intake kit (like MTC) instead which gives you a nicer sound and possibly some gains too I have run the Forge blow off adapter for some years now but took it off the other day when I installed an MTC intake.

              This is how my Racing sounds with the intake kit;

Thanks for the response. Yeah I know about the induction kits, had the forge one on my THP, but didn't take it off to put it on my racing because it said they weren't suppose to go on them, so that's why i was just gonna get the adaptor. Take it it's ok on yours?

I fitted the MTC intake kit with only smaller issues. The supplied RamAir filter is a bit too big but it kinda fits. You could just buy the intake without the filter and get another one, but I bought the kit with the filter included. The other issue was that the fuel vapour breather hose (the thinner one coming from the back of the engine) doesn't fit the the inlet of the intake. I had to improvise with a bit of tapered plastic pipe and some duct tape and it's probably good enough. I have spoken to Matt at MTC about this issue and he was interested in trying to find a solution so it would fit the Racing so maybe in the future Racing owners could buy a kit that actually fits nice straight out of the box

Is that the reason they say it doesn't fit the Racing? Are the breather hoses different sizes to the THP? I thought they'd be the same size

The turbo inlet pipe has the same oe part number for both the Racing and the THP so I'm not sure what model those intakes are actually meant to fit I will probably cut the hose to get rid of the stupid oe fitting and get some silicone hose and a reducer to make it look nice.

You think I'm better getting the MTC intake kit then? Wasn't going to originally because the forge one said it didnt fit the racing and thought there might be some mechanical reason for it. So I thought more about getting the spacer adaptor for the blow off sound and maybe the k&n air filter instead. I've also read the MTC one doesn't come with the jubilee clips

I'm never going back to stock intake.. that's for sure. As I plan to do some more mods and increase power in the future I don't want the stock airbox and intake to be a restriction. The car is more responsive now and pulls harder so there's obviously some restriction with the stock intake. Also, removing the stock airbox and intake frees up a whole lot of space in the engine bay and enables me to mount a much needed dual oil catch can setup on the firewall. The only drawback I can think of with the MTC type intake is that the engine will possibly draw in hot air from the engine bay when driven hard. I plan to make some kind of shield and maybe add some cold air ducting to fix that later.

As far as I'm concerned there's no mechanical reasons why the Forge intake shouldn't be put on a Racing. The Racing is basically just a beefed up version of the THP and the intake, PCV and sensors are the same. If you are fine with maybe fiddling around a bit with the MTC intake to make it fit, like I did, there's really no reason not to get one. It doesn't come with jubilee clips but those are very cheap and easy to get. If you buy the kit with the filter note that it's doesn't come with oil so you would have to get that too. Luckily I had some left from buying another RamAir filter previously

When accelerating don't forget that despite the engine working hard drawing in lots of air, your vehicle is also being force fed ambient air, this ambient air passes through any frontal openings cooling the radiator core any intercooler fitted and of corse the huge amount of heat radiation from the drivetrain itself, all this heat is drawn down and out of the engine bay as you accelerate, furthermore how cold is a cold air feed from outside of the engine bay and does this cooler air actually show positive results once the turbocharger has squeezed this incoming air ?

Remember when we squeeze air that air is subject to friction and with friction we generate heat.

Is the air filter supplied with this MTC kit the type of foam filter that requires oiling ?

The size and efficiency of the intercooler is probably much more important on these cars but I like to think it helps a bit when the air sucked in is as cold as possible to begin with. A bigger intercooler is next on my to-do list

I'm not sure if the filter really needs oil but I would suppose so. I previously bought a similar RamAir foam filter and it came with oil and some kinda cleaning solvent.
