  • Will HID's void any warantee I have?

This may seem a strange question but a work colleague informed me that when he had an electrical fault on his car (albeit not citreon) they said that the addition of HID's had voided his warantee and I didn't want the same outcome if I get some and god forbid get an electrical fault.

    Any help appreciated

    Chris

On any engine problem, brakes, bodywork etc probably not, on any lighting/electrical problem, probably yes

Did think this would be the case. Same would go for the aftermarket stereo then should their be an electrical problem I would guess.

Much appreciated, have to decide how I'm gonna get some brighter lights another way now.

Haha. I concur with the second part of that statement. Do the 135Ws not heat the plastic a lot though?

Could just put the originals back if a problem occurs- and not so sure about an aftermarket stereo, but again, swap things back. They will look for anything that's been played with, if an error occurs in that area. Reckon painting my calipers RED after 50 miles from new will raise an eyebrow. But I didn't remove/replace anything

Dealers have different attitudes as well. If one says no, go to another

I mean who wants to wait 3 years on everything. Chomping at the bit to put coilovers in, but have to do at least 12 months (And see how a 155 engine copes with winter)

True enough could always hang on to the originals and just swap them back.

Haha I'm also wanting coilovers, looked at a set that is 45mm all round. Now that's lower than Lil Jon.

45mm- Jeees. That's low. Like the adjustable bit me.
Got a trolley jack that I need to use LOL
Those Bilsteins for the THP out yet?

If I went for springs, 25 mm is good for me

45mm is a long way down. I'd probs go 25mm too but they were on offer at £130 for the set.

The issue here is really understanding that the Warranty on the car is a legal contract between you and Citroen, they agree to provide replacement care if you agree not to fiddle with the car during the period.

You can actually do anything you want to the car as it's yours (unless under finance) but in that case Citroen have the right to withdraw their promise to you and you have breach the agreement.

Swapping things back and forth is technically a breach of contract as you are attempting to obtain services via deception, in the US a manufacture did successful sue a customer who did this!

My advice at the end of the day is to speak with your Service Manager at your local dealer, they will guide you on things that would be acceptable in their eyes, it's no use going from dealer to dealer as your VIN records with show a refusal listed against it and warranty work is normally submitted to Citroen first for approval anyway.#

Sorry to preach on but when it comes to mods on a car under warranty it's a simple thing to understand.

That's why most mods should be visual
Mine are- Xcept for the exhaust which I advised them of (Prob saved Citroen money)
All other mods are reversible (New lamps, wheels, air horns, etc)

If I changed suspension would tell them anyway, or if an issue happened suspension related, then don't claim warranty
Most dealers are sensible (He says) If you get a blown engine, and you've changed the exhaust, don't think that would invalidate the claim
That's why they call Citroen to check

(Personally I wouldn't tinker with cars wiring- anything electrical take straight from the battery with an in line fuse)
