Good to hear that your engines is not suffering, that said, oil catch cans only slow down the inevitable build up of coke, they don't cure the issue, the very best oil catch can will only provide a 35-50% capture of suspended oil particles from the crankcase gasses.

Citroen would be better off, looking at their ECU software, and change the timing advancement/retard parameters.

        • Maybe the catch can removing up to %50 of the suspended oil and moisture, means that the engine can cope with the remainder
There is a real core of Racings that seem to suffer
Mentioned in another post that if a car is having same problems on a second engine, it may well be a problem not connected with the engine
As usual in life, its probably a few issues that come together that causes the overall problem

Totally agree here Roger... I have found a mapping glitch in the stock ignition advance maps which I repair in all my remaps of the 150/155 engine. This glitch isn't there in the BMW mini. Not seen a stock map from a Racing so can't say if this could be a contributory factor to there failure.
Also the Egt temps are allowed to go way to high before timing and AFR is allowed to adjust for high EGTs to comat knock occurring. We also reduce the EGT temperature modelling in the remap.
I'll try and post pic of the ignition advance map later.

              • Did you get a camera in to have a look at any inlet valve carbonisation Jamie
Must say when I took my PCV front pipe off, didnt see any oil whatsoever.
(Feel a lot happier with a can on tho)

Maybe I'm not driving it fast enough

                  • Glad I let you do the mapping on my car Jamie and not some cowboy!

I am currently on 47k miles and the car is almost 6 years old, i have no catch can fitted or anything and i have no doubt the valves will be coked, but i dont believe this to be causing any issues at all. Surely you need to do alot of miles before the carbon gets so bad it affects the engine? what damage can be caused or symptoms etc.

See the highlighted areas on one of the stock spark advance maps that need attention in my opinion.

nice find Jamie, even the 3520/5520rpm have a lower reading than the next one down. something very strange with a Standard DS3 map indeed.

                        • Perhaps you should let CUK know what you've found Jamie ? I realise they won't want to accept there is an issue but a subtle ECU update wouldn't be any type of admission if this could help resolve the issues seen would it

Would be handy to see the OEM map on the Racing then
We havent had many complaints about serious engine issues on the THP155 though- unmapped. Beefmasta's happy
                            Relating to superknock that is

Maybe one of these Racings that have issues could come pay Jamie a visit so he could check it out?

                            • Ive tried pretty hard to replicate a knock since Jamie worked on my car but it just wont, hard acceleration in 2nd, 3rd and 4th and nothing but smooth power delivery.

                              • Fitted my Saikou Michi catch can on front PCV about 5 week ago, with sight glass
Done about 1400miles since (Not quite sure, maybe more) and theres about 4 mil of dark gooey mess at bottom of sight tube (Will wait and see how much that means)
Vehicles 1st service very soon, so will be reverting to OEM pipes, and will empty the can
Will prob take a recording and post up what comes out.
Really pleased I have it on- whatever
