Nice project Wes, I have a Raspberry Pi here too, though its taking over from my Second NAS for my Weather Station. not quiet there yet with Weewx application and Raspbian but they are a great piece of engineering and very cheap!

That weather station is awesome!! I'm very much a noob with the Pi but looking forward to learning a lot!

First hurdle completed tonight though and have the first power up of my Pi and successfully from the Anker battery pack!

just a note, make sure the amperage is a solid 1A or the Raspi can fail.

Thanks toxic. The battery pack proved very stable tonight so that's encouraging. Setup Raspian and got wireless all sorted. Slight oversight and forgot my usb m to m cable for the damn hub but at least heading in right direction with that.

Next step is a small screen and mini keyboard/track pad and get that all set up then will purchase the odb2 unit!

Then the real hard work starts!!

Raspberry PI. if you've not heard of them then have a look here: http://www.raspberrypi.org/faqs

basically its a micro computer running different versions of Linux. though Raspbian is the normal OS which is an optimized version of Debian.

Basically a media centre & engine readouts (via OBD).

Essentially what I'm going to try and do is have a red Perspex cover to the glovebox with a section cut out for an LCD screen attached to a battery operated Raspberry Pi.

I have seen a project with a Pi hooked up via USB to an ODB2 reader feeding back RTI to a screen which I'd like in the glovebox. The temp in the box will be fine and I can keep it cool which is good.

I can also use it as a media centre via Bluetooth to the stereo and also hook it up via wifi to a 4G Alcatel wifi box!

A bit ambitious but a good project for under £150 for the new year!
                            See above ^

Power suppoly should be able to be fed from the built in USB port too as it is 5v though need to find out its amperage.

Wes, what're you planning on doing with the airbag? Or would the plan be to actually mount it to the glovebox and have that open when you want to use it?
