Have you fitted an aftermarket filter to your hdi yet? does it make the car much louder than standard, or about the same?

Yeah I stuck a k&n panel filter on there. Not really any difference to the sound, just abit more turbo whistle.. the car sounds a bit aggressive in higher gears

Would just stick with an upgraded panel filter. Don't think there are any gains from a new induction kit

              Now ONLY IN MY OPINION
i have this http://www.knfilters.com/images/l/33-2975.jpg and to be honest i dont think what size or shape matters
thats why i stuck with panel filter
              no difference in engine noise
              no noticeable difference in power
just a difference in my wallet when i dont have to replace at every service, just clean it & fling it back in

I have got to a stage now that if it dont give any gains why fit it and the small cost of filter replacement against the high cost of KN or Pipercross is it worth it ?

Have the relevant KN panel filter in mine. Saves costs on replacement, and gives a 1.6BHP gain on the THP (Has been measured)
Its not always about gains tho- some things are just better for the engine too

That is 1.6 not 16 I doubt you would even notice the increase but if used conjunction with a map.... exhaust....even shock horror a de-cat then the filter comes into its own but by it self is it really needed

Anything that helps the engine breathe better is good in my book- little cost too

High performance filters cold air intakes and even ram air intakes have all been largely debunked as adding any performance benefit for street driven cars so look for a quality air filter that works well and is cheap and easy to replace. The stock one is fine for all normal road driving conditions really! if you want a different sound or some under bonnet bling then great but if you were looking for any seat of the pants noticeable performance increase spend your money elsewhere like remap and big intercooler.

Have a look what my mate Marty's video
