  • Osram Nightbreakers

Has anyone had any problems with Osram Nightbreakers or any upgraded bulbs. I originally changed my sidelights to LED's which worked fine, then the N/S one failed, I swapped it but could never get the N/S to work, so put the originals back in and they work fine. In September I changed the dipped over to Osrams, again the N/S failed after 3 months, sent them back, got some replacements, last night N/S failed again. Now I'm thinking It can't be the bulb, it must be an issue with the car.

    Any ideas?

I had nightbreakers in my old 09 plate zs, nothing but trouble, wouldn't use them again! They used to die within about 3 months, was really annoying as I ended up having to carry a spare in the car at all times

Its due a service in a couple of weeks, I might mention it to them. The improved light from upgraded bulbs is something I like, maybe its time to try the Phillips Extreme ones.

Sounds like a voltage issue to me, might be worth running a multimeter check on the connectors when the lights are running to see.

Used Osrams for years with no problems, the ones in my Picasso have been going strong for nearly four years!

Yes- OEM lamps on all new cars seem to be rubbish. My other halfs Fiesta dipped beam so bad, you hardly notice they are on
DS3 OEMs arent much cop either

But, all the 'upgrade' bulbs work by burning the filament brighter/hotter, either with different gas
              and/or thinner wire.
On average they're not gonna last as long??
(Preferably bit longer than 3 months though)
Isnt that why they brought out the Nightbreaker Plus's?
              To last a bit longer.

                  No! I agree mate.
Fair bit brighter and easier/cheaper than hids
(AND more legal unless you do the wash/auto level bit too!!!!!)
Just saying mighthave reduced life.....might not?
"Better to burn out brightly" or something????

I like the nightbreakers, just looking at the bulb itself it looks as if it is manufactured to a good standard. Even osram claim on the packaging they do not last as long as a regular bulb, at least they are honest! but in comparison with a cheap ebay bulb they are miles better. Last cheap bulbs i used one of them actually blew the glass and went everywhere in the headlamp - not good.

There are also nightbreaker unlimited which i have heard are decent!

Current Nightbreaker+ are coming up on 10m old, no issues so far and the brighter light is much better than the OEM lights

I think there's a thread about the same thing somewhere... But yes, NBs don't last long because they're brighter and I've heard that "french cars have higher voltage on bulbs" so I use Osram Ultralife, which are made for cars with higher voltage. Guarantee is 3 years for the bulbs.
