  • DS3 Racing New Exhaust

Okay so i've never changed an exhaust on a car before so i'm a complete newbie at this, basically just wanting to know how to keep it legal but get an exhaust with more sound, as much as i love my racing the exhaust is just too quiet for me.

I've looked around and i know people have mixed views on which exhausts are best (custom or manufacturer) and was wondering what people's opinions are? I'm looking for a deeper/throatier sound but not sure what i'd need to change to get this?

Also i know changing the exhaust will affect my warranty and with a racing i really don't want the engine to blow and them blame the exhaust and refuse to repair it so any advice on that would help. I would prefer not going to my dealer for advice on this as they've been completely useless with everything else so far and given me false information almost every time I've been (when i was buying a racing they told me that the racing wasn't limited edition and that they could just order a new one from the factory in France and then tried to sell me a DS3 THP with a chip tune - pretty sure that would instantly void any warranty if bought?)

    Any help is really appreciated

As far as I know, changing the exhaust only effects the warranty on the actual exhaust. I know Chris_Blue has changed his and I'm pretty sure he checked with his dealer beforehand.

I think Jamie at SP tuning supplies and fits the Milltek system, although I'm sure he could source another if you wanted.

I'm sure Chris and Jamie have videos somewhere of their different systems so could use those to compare?

Some info on the Milltek here.

Re the exhaust Ollie- Beef is right. I checked with the dealer and they said the warranty would only be void on the exhaust system (Quite right too, as the exhaust actually helps the engine and turbo, as its bigger and freer flowing fumes- less backpressure on turbo)

Standard system is 54mm and most upgrades are 63mm, and stainless steel wont rot
The sportscat gives you lots performance gains, and additional sound (Sports cat converter and upgrade exhaust about 12BHP)
Different backbox alone, would also give you a decent sound. Problem with just a backbox is you void the warranty on your complete exhaust system, and no performance gains- so might as well go the whole hog

Most say Milltek, - but i wanted something different and went for German engineered Bastuck exhaust
      Some say bespoke

I posted couple videos on here in the past, but not sure they are still on, and may have been wiped

Yeah I was looking at the Bastuck exhaust on hangar 111's website, is this exhaust fully legal as it comes?

Also newbie question but is everything I need to get the exhaust fitted to the car included?

Last thing is does anyone recommend anywhere to actually fit the exhaust?

Cheers for the replies and help

This was mine with a modified backbox made by the guys at pro-speed in Cardiff:

Regardless of whether you choose to go branded or not you can always speak to the person fitting the exhaust to ensure you're getting what you want. In most cases you'll find the sound from any third party exhaust to be a lot more beefy than standard

Oliie- Jamie fitted my Bastuck 2nd time round (Took of the 150 and put on the 155)
Think all the fittings come with the kit, just have to decide if you want the mid silencer or not

I first purchased without mid silencer, but it was too loud. So then purchased a mid silencer- more costly that that way- and I have a spare mid section pipe in the loft :-)
Its pretty standard stuff fitting an exhaust, so if it costs you a lot to get to Jamie- then go local to you, for a price

Cheers for the replies, don't think Jamie is too far from me so will have to message him.

Think i'm gonna go with the bastuck exhaust. Want to try and get it done before FCS

Depends on your budget, but try a bcs exhaust. Not cheap but very very good

Bastuck, with mid res, and Milltek sportscat and install, you'll be pushing £1300

I agree go custom. www.powerflowexhausts.co.uk They see where your nearest dealer is... When I had my C2 they let me decide on how quiet or how loud it could be which is a bonus.

                          Hope this helps.

I've looked at the full milltek system on mine, has anyone got a performance comparison as run sheets with cars fitted with them? How do folk find the Milltek one to live with compared to say, the scorpion one that's out? I loved Scorpion on the my old RS Turbo's, but the Miltek one seems to be a pretty good setup for what i'm reading.
