  • Sucking in air

I have noticed lately then when i start my car when its cooler outside that for about the first 30 secs the engine is sucking in lots of air with the revs up about 900rpm, after the 30 secs revs drop to normal and the air sucking sound stops, any ideas what this is?
oh and hope this makes sense

mine does the same. assume its trying to call the sensor, or does it as a safety feature as outside temp is warm

Blimey, still, with 5 years practice you must have passed first time.

Ha ha, I didn't drive a car until I was 15 on a disused airfield near where I lived, meant I missed a few afternoons of school getting to grips with the basics of handbrake turns etc

It's the cat warm up cycle, noise is because the the diverter valve is wide open during this cycle. Very noticeable if you have induction kit fitted.
