  • A couple of technical issues

    Hi folks,

I am currently in a battle with Citroen UK over my car - a Dsport plus e-hdi 13 plate.

I have several issues with the cd player and the way phone calls are handled and also the LCD readout. So far I have struggled for 18 months with Citroen as they say that other DS3's have the same 'features' and therefore it isnt seen as a problem. So can you please tell me if you experience these.

The first is my CD player wont correctly play a dance music mix CD. You know the ones that seemlessly lead into the next track without a noticeable gap. My unit abruptly ends the song and then abruptly starts the next one. I have tried several CD's and they are all the same. I have tried the same cd's in a C2, DS4 and a DS5 and they all play perfectly. Does your DS3 play mix CD's correctly?

Secondly I can be listening to the radio on say preset 1 and a phone call comes in. I answer the call and everything is normal, however when I hang up instead of the unit going back to the radio preset, it plays white noise instead. I have to scroll forward and then back to find the station again. Is this normal?

Thirdly my number 2 trip setting seems to stop at 6,214 miles. I wanted this setting to show my mpg since I bought the car, so I never reset it. Twice now it gets to 6,214 miles and stops. All 3 settings on the display freeze and all I can do is set it back to 0. Incidentally my average speed readout has always been way out but I just thought it was trying to do something fancy that it couldnt achieve. Basically I can drive at 80mpg for 3 hours after a trip reset and it will still show my average speed as around 30mph.

I have a hunch that all these issues are linked to a software problem somewhere. However different dealers have run diagnostics and found nothing wrong. Any ideas? I have been emailing the Chief Exec at Citroen UK due to the shocking after sales customer service I have rec'd so I am keen to update her on the findings from fellow owners!

    Many thanks,

    Iceward

I'm not sure about your other issues but this one is to do with the trip computer only going up to 9999km (6214 miles). The mpg and average speed will still update but the total miles won't.

When you do a trip reset, it will only reset the current highlighted trip. Also average speed/mpg will go down when you're stopped.

Hope I've understand what you meant and this info helps

Ok my experience of your three points:

1: Mix Cds - not had this, I have hardly used the cd player as initially I used my ipod and then bought a 32gb thumb drive (thanks BeefMasta) and now play all my music off that. I have a couple of dance albums on that and they play fine (Swedish House Mafia, Armin Van Buerin) and are one track over an hour long each time.

2: Radio/calls - yep I get this from time to time, after the call my radio either plays a random station or else just crackles, I then use the steering controls to return to the correct station. It only does this rarely though.

3: Beefy nailed this, the trip computers will stop recording miles/km's at 9999km, it's how their programmed and can't be changed.

        Thanks Beefy and Lfc,

The 9999 kms makes perfect sense, it's a pitty 3 different citroen dealers didn't know this though

as for the average speed thing. Logically, at least to me, it seems that its a time over speed thing. Therefore if I spend 10 minutes doing 0mph and 10 minutes doing 60mph my average speed would be 30mph. The trouble is, is that I spend much more time driving above 60mph than I do sat in traffic so my average should be much higher than the current 32mph that it shows.

The CD and the radio thing really annoy me. My car has supposedly got an upgraded Hi-Fi system but which still cant play a CD correctly that a £30 basic unit from Halfords can.

Anyway thanks again for your replies.

          Hi.

I have this same issue and it drives me crazy, had a quick search on here and found this thread.

          How common is this?

Is there something that can be done by either myself or a dealer to correct the problem?

Although mine doesn't do it all the time, I'd say it occurs at least 75% of the time and it can be rather annoying as I take a lot of calls in the car. Listening loudly to a nice tune then after the call some nice loud static, having to find what station you were on, or just press any station to get it off. A pain in the...

I am hoping someone knows some way to fix this issue.
          If in doubt, flat out!

I get a similar thing when i`m using the Here drive Sat nav on my Windows phone.Because the phone is connected via Bluetooth the voice commands come through the car speakers which is excellent.
The problem is if i`ve got the radio on it returns to white noise instead of my preset station !

              Sounds very similar.

I'm not sure what possible solutions there are, sounds like an issue with the units themselves. There isn't much modifying, if any that can be done via the OBD port to my knowledge, certainly not that I've seen?

Spend most of my time footering about with the stations than I do anything else when in the car!
