  • Brake fluid reservoir filter/screen.

Hi all, just a quick question.

Was going to pop some new brake fluid in, what's up with the super fine mesh in the neck of the brake fluid reservoir? Does this just come off? Or is it a case of it gets chucked out the first time some one changes the fluid?

    Thanks, Tim.

Please do not take it out. The last thing you want is any foreign particulate matter in you brake system. Just be patient and pour slow to let the fluid drain through the screen.

Cheers Cyclone, I haven't seen a filter there before on other cars, and usually syringe a bunch of fluid out first then top up with fresh. Hence my question.

I've been trying to top up my brake fluid for months now and it's getting dangerous...

Fluid wouldn't go in and I assumed it was the mesh filter was blocked. I got it out a few days ago and tried again and the fluid still just sits there? Felt around inside and it's as if the stem of the reservoir doesn't actually go anywhere like it's not open into the reservoir...

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm really desperate and can't get time to see the mechanic due to my working hours.

Obviously safety first- if you are really concerned, dont drive it

Can you draw the fluid out of the reservoir with a turkey baster? Then replace?

Brake fluid cant be left to the open air for long, as you probably know, as the fluid will absorb moisture

Maybe air lock, maybe debris lodged. Sounds strange.
Definitley the brake fluid reservoir ?

Maybe bleed brakes and see if level drops

If all fails- kwik fit do a free brake check, or mobile mechanic may do out of hours......
