  • Coolant issues

Hi,whilst driving home today, the engine of my 1.6 petrol starting steaming like its a volcano, lifted the bonnet and its piling out of the coolant header tank cap, temp gauge didn't read high and it was very sudden, any ideas anyone?

could be a faulty cap, they are designed to vent when the pressure gets too high, but they can also fail in a way where
they open too low a pressure.

Theres also a possibility it could be a faulty water pump, as the temperature sensor might not see a true temperature if water is not flowing, and coolant could be boiling at the source of heat. I had this happen in my old holden calais.
