  • No Drive

Hi, hope someone can help us, we have a 14 plate (8 month old ) Cabrio. About 6 weeks ago while driving the car came to a halt and a load of faults flashed on the dashboard. It was like the handbrake was on, car just would not move.
After turning it off and then on it would drive but very slowly and was juddering. Our Citroen garage plugged it in and could only find an earth wire loose that could of affected the power steering. They said there was no fault recorded that
could make the wheels "stop" or the "juddering".

About 3 weeks ago a warning flashed up very briefly saying something like "assembly fault". Into Citroen again, plugged in and computer said no fault.

Then last week, yet again the car lost its drive again, coming out of a junction we were about to pull away and just stopped. Had to knock it out of gear and then into 1st and it did pull away but again very slowly and juddery for a mile or so.
No fault come up on the dashboard this time. Back into Citroen and amazingly when they plugged car in it showed no faults again.

Both the techs at my local Citroen dealership and Citroen Uk have both stated that the above faults with the car not moving (wheels locked / lack of drive) is impossible and cannot happen, but it has.

Has anybody had any similar issues cause i have lost confidence in the car.

    Thanks

Sounds scary. Have you got a dash cam that could record it, if (hope it doesn't) happens again. Or get some footage on a phone to take to them.

Not heard of anything like it before.

Jamie, what would the ABS fault mean?

The anti lock braking/traction control system gone wonky locking brakes on, only thing I can think of that would lock the wheels up...

Unless the gearbox is jamming up somehow?

I know if you drive modern citroens with ESP with the brake and accelerator on at the same time the car will beep and cut power? Just a thought, but it could be a faulty brake light switch? I know when I left foot braked once the car just cut power and beeped at me! lol

I appreciate the comments, when i say wheels lock i cant say that they definatly lock all i know is the car comes to a halt and will NOT move even though the car is in gear, it just sits there stationary. When you turn car off and back on it does move but very slow (hardly any power) and just is very juddery, this clears after a short while. My main concern is none of what has happened shows up when Citroen plug in the car, it shows no faults have occurred so it is our word against theirs. Just worried encase this happens at a higher speed.

Following on from this comment can I ask when you are in gear does the engine rev up at all, in regards to the wheels 'locking up' are you feeling resistance when trying to move i.e like trying to pull away with the handbrake for example.

On a side note I'm pretty sure your car would have the Hill Start Assist system.

on the subject of hill start assist.... does the problem happen after coming to a stop and when you try to pull away you get the problem of the wheels locked up.....if so I would think the issue is with the hill start assist system......

Hi, when it comes to a halt the engine runs but it doesn't rev at all. Also there is no resistance when you are stationary. Both times this has happened the car has been on the flat though. I am unaware about this hill start and whether i have it, i am just reading up on the internet about it. Thxs for your comments.
