thp anti pollution engine fault

I have a 1.6 thp 60 plate with 45,000 and havent had a single fault until this, have done a few searches and by the sounds of it can be a number of things. What are the most common causes before i take it to be checked out?

Most common issues tend to arise due to a build up of oil and gunk within the engine causing hesitation and stuttering and eventually leading to piston failure.

Is the car under any sort of warranty?

Me too! Its was ticking over like crap and the fan was on! Ran home from work fine though, next day EML on, but still but running ok! The following day, no Light! Engine codes were 1336 and 1337, Misfiring I think? May change the plugs as Im not sure if they were changed last service

Its not under any warranty no. It hesitates quite bad whilst idling sometime but other than that i cant fault it, doesnt miss going through the gears or anything

Same happened to mine anti pollution warning light .............bad tick over .......pulled badly when cold

It was the high pressure fuel pump that had failed

Take it to a garage to diagnose the cause of the EML.

EML's don't just appear for fun, there should be something logged against the ECU to confirm why it alerted you to a fault.

I had this and turned out to be the fuel pump

Before you send it to the garage. check your oil level. I had this. Turned out to be a lack of oil causes the high pressure fuel pump not to function correctly.

Check the cost between Citroen and BMW MINI, as the BMW MINI N14 engine HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) is approximately £250 and exactly the same HPFP as fitted to the Citroen THP 1.6

Just give the parts department a reg number off a 2007-2009 Cooper S, they can get it from that. I paid £198.00 plus vat for ours last month.
