Got some good news Hot from down under because my Citroen Dealer has no idea what he is doing, I decided to buy my TOTAL OIL the same just like yours, so when I have a service i provide my own Total oil, very much to to his dislike cause oil is oil and its Standard oil, whilst waiting for this service the Man advised me that Citroen no longer approve that very same oil that you use and the new Total oil is OW/30, and that is the oil that must go in to my ds3 otherwise it may void the warrantee, so in went OW/30, get this, another call to Total Australia nothing wrong with the 5w/30 and its the correct oil for the ds3,received my invoice went home had a look at the Invoice yep it was ow/30 oil put that to TOTAL that oil is not available YET in Australia and is for the new up and coming breed, now I do not have any mates at Citroen they wont have a coffee with me outside, i don't even get a good day, so if you think you are hard done with, now I have words with the Importer and Dealer who shy away, and I don't think i will get easter eggs this year, and I did not get a happy Christmas Card in 2014. love it. Tony

As long as the oil meets the PSA2290 spec, then it's fine to use.

                Cheers

Just out of curiosity, which dealer did you go to? (so I know which one not to go to)
I can't see why they'd use 0w30 in Australia, especially with our 40-45c+ summer. Would be kinda worried about the oil thinning out in hot weather and making it too thin for the oil pump supply good pressure. Know the thermostat regulates engine coolant temp, but oil temp can still vary a bit under load.

Recommendations from a bunch of other suppliers:
                    Penrite: 5w40
                    Mobil: 0w40 or 5w40
                    Nulon: 0w40 or 5w40

                    Edit:
                    From Total oil website:
                    Quartz INEO First 0W - 30 From -45°C to 45°C
                    Quartz INEO ECS 5W - 30 From -30°C to 45°C

Only benefit I can think of is better fuel economy (because it's thinner, so less pumping/circulating losses)
and better cold start performance in sub zero temperatures... which we don't see too often.

I have gone with the Penrite myself, may as well support the Aus brand. But interesting that Total recommend the 0/5-30 oils for up 45°C only...

I don't think you should be putting 5W40 oils in your THP engine, however it will probably cope.

The Australian "table of oil recommendations" state 5W30 (B71 2312) or 0W30 (B71 2290) for the THP engine.

I have heard from a "master tech" (I use that term loosely because he carried on like a tosser) that Peugeot and Citroen in Australia (same importer, after all) had recently changed from 5W30 to 0W30, but I've not seen it written anywhere.
                        Regards,

                        Simon

2011 DS3 DSport (Sport Red with Onyx Black Roof).
                        2014 208 GTi (Calado Blue).

All the Oz brands recommend 5w30 for the THP cars (including the BMW Mini). I usually buy the Nulon stuff when it's on special - http://www.nulon.com.au/products/Ful...RO_Engine_Oil/ - for no particular reason, but it seems to work fine !

Should have mentioned I'm using the 5-30 not the 5-40 in the post I quoted.

Best stick to what Citroen or the Manual that came with the car said (Total?) - whatever Country to be honest
Unless a few performance modifications have been made
